Matt,
Looks like I posted as you were writing the one above it. I wouldn't use the KISS unit without the factory one. As small as it is, it still provides additional cooling beyond the Mocal unit.
The RX7 solution was my original plan, and if temps and pressures do not show the desired results, that's going to be the next step.
Regarding the factory gauges, the oil pressure gauge is probably pretty accurate. I plan to run a SPA unit that stores the max/min values for the monitored values, plus warning lights when preset values are reached.
I'm still relatively new to the DE environment, and if the stuff is hitting the fan, I don't want to find out about it 30 seconds too late, I want to know immediately.
Let us know how you make out, and post pics, please.
-Jon

I think I am going to snag a Setrab unit off of Ebay and see how it works, they are cheap enough, there is not much in the way of an investment. If it doesnt work I will chuck it.

Keep us posted on how it works out.
BTW- LxWxD is for volume, you need surface area. That's a function of the tubing surface, and the surface of the fins. It doesn't take into account any type of efficiency of heat transfer though.

I have a Setrab cooler on shelves and would like to install in series with my stock cooler.
Pardon my ignorance but where can I find the neccessary oil pipes/lines/adapters? Do I have to get a customed set?
The Setrab unit has a P/N: 620AN8, Series 6, 290mm x 160mm x 50mm
Matt H..... is this the unit you are talking about?

You can use a Mocal in front of the stock radiator w/o problems in 110F heat provided that you have a radiator in good condition, and that you have the bottom spoiler installed.
The Mocal to use os the 911 oil cooler. I don't have the dimensions off hand, but it's about 22" wide and 6" tall by 3" deep. It fits perfectly in front of the lower portion of the stock radiator.
Then you simply remove the stock oil cooler, and the lines, and use custom made lines with adapters screwed into the oil cooler housing.
I wouldn't use a second oil cooler in series with the stock oil cooler for several reasons:
a: pressure drop
b: the stock lines are old. Messing with them can cause them to leak
c: it looks "hookie" with the mess of lines once installed
d: the more line, the more chance of a problem
e: why mess around with adding a second oil cooler when you can do the job the "right" way.

What size AN fittings? For some reason, I see a ton of Setrab on ebay with -4 to -8 stuff on it. Obviously way too small for an oil cooler. I wonder what the NASCAR guys are using that for?

Matt H aeroquip has the adapters it's metric to a -10. get some -10 line and you're going to have to get adapters. If you're going to use an rx-7 cooler pull out the thermostat and plug the hole. -12 line is huge the factory lines are about a -10 if I remember correctly. BTW the thermostat is under the large plug in the bottom of thr cooler If I remember correctly I think I used a 1/8 pipe plug worked perfect. There are bigger coolers out there but since doing this oil temps are a non-issue and I like the fact I'm not blocking off the entire bottom of my rad/condenser core as I like a/c.

IIRC factory lines are -10, so -12 seems a bit unneccesary.
I dont have a degree in fluid dynamics...but whats the point in opening up a -10 to -12 only to bring it back down to -12 on the return trip?

My car has the KISS oil cooler installed with -12 lines. The stock cooler is gone. I have at least 60 psi when hot after a 90 minute enduro. The oil temp never gets over 190F on the return line out of the cooler. Water temp does get to 210F. I'd like to see that drop.
I have seen a couple of very nice looking dual oil cooler setups which were plumbed in parallel. One on each side of the car with venting for each. That setup left the radiator unobstructed for max flow which should result in a water temp drop. You'd have to deal with the extra plumbing and the additional sites for possible oil leaks as Tony Noted.

In parallel? Must have made a huge problem with running all the extra -12 hoses around the oil filter housing. I would like to see a picture of how that worked.
What are the differences in running 2 coolers in parallel v in series?
