Default 968 Mirror base?

I have a 968 mirror kit that I'm installing on my '86. The base that attaches to the door doesn't match up with the door. I suspect I have the wrong base. The part number on the base is 965 731 242 01 G2M. Does anyone know if this is the correct part? If not, does anyone know the correct part number?

TIA

Those parts beginning in 965 are 993 Aero mirrors. Not 968. Someone misrepresented them to you if they said they were 968 mirrors.

The kit came with the car. PO bought the kit from the dealer back in '96.

So all the parts starting with 965 are for a 993?

Thanks for the info.

965- prefix parts are for the 964* cars. Some, such as mirrors were carried over to the 993.

The mirror housing itself is identical, and is shared across the 964, 968, 928, 993 and RS2. The base changed depending on the door.

965 bases are for the 964 / 993 doors.

In other words, the housings and glass you can use. You need new bases. The electrical connector you can probably use but I cannot confirm.

*The 965 number originates from a 959 successor project that never came to fruition. Many of these 965 parts were incorporated into the 964 Turbo, via which they found their way to the 964 and 993.

Great info. Thanks!

Hopefully the base is available at a reasonable cost...
