Catalytic converter question
I currently have a straight pipe on my 1986 944T and do not need to worry too much about passing inspection with it.
However, when I take my wife and kids for a ride, they complain that the car smell with exhaust fumes, especially with the roof or windows open...
I was thinking about adding a quick change adaptors and getting a catalytic converter for the family rides and only swap to straight pipe for DEs and spirited rides.
Long story short... I am based in Israel and getting a converter shipped over from Amazon with fast shipping is 3 times cheaper than getting it here...
I went to the Magnaflow web site and the universal fit they recommend for the 944T is model #91006 (2.5 inlet/outlet as my current pipes).
The shop I use for installation told me they are concerned it may be too wide because of the second pipe next to it on the stock exhaust system.
The guy at the shop recommended getting a round profile converter to be on the safe side.
1. Does anyone have the Magnaflow 91006 install with stock 944T pipes? was there any modification that had to be done?
2. Is there other models that are more recommended?

I have to wonder how much a cat will improve your exhaust smell issue? You might start by confirming the hatch seal is good and the exhaust tip isn't too short, etc. Do you have a true straight pipe or a factory cat that's been gutted? I'd share your mechanic's worry with a factory cat as the wastegate tie in doesn't leave tons of room to swap in a cat where the factory cat was. I'm sure it's possible, but would suggest you look at how Speedforce Racing did it. They cut off the back foot or two of the cat/test pipe, so you can swap in a straight pipe or cat there (slip joint with band clap toward the front, and a 4-bolt square flange at the rear that bolts to the factory muffler). By doing it behind the wastegate tie in area, there's plenty of room to work with and it's a very easy swap...

Spencer, the link you sent looks like great product, but considering the cost difference (~$70 to ~$360) and the concept of direct fit is less of an advantage for me as I plan to use v-clamps to be able to swap it in/out.
Tom,
My car has is a straight pipe which was welded instead of the original cat.
As for the smell, if I drive with windows and roof close, I do not get the smell, but if I am with the windows/roof open and especially when moving slow or at a standstill, it is quite strong.
As for the link, are you referring to the 4" cat back they offer for around a $1000

Your cat can go basically anywhere between the down pipe and the muffler. That one will fit. I had one that was positioned behind where the waste gate dumps back in to the system. It worked well there.
But if I were you I would be looking for an exhaust leak first. I use along plumed feather and run it around all those hard to get to places and look for the feather to flutter, also check your header for cracks and/or leaks.

No, he doesn't have one good picture, but look at the 3" testpipe and the 3" replacement cat. The test pipe is two pieces. The rear piece bolts to the muffler and can be removed quickly and replaced with the cat (which also has a 4-bolt flange that mates to the muffler). You could just buy it from SFR or have a shop do something similar. I can vouch for it being a 10-minute swap...
