You must be painting some of those parts if you're going for Fully Restored, I see allot of parts that came black painted from the factory.. and BTW KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR MOTOR MOUNT Bolts.. They are kinda a Funky length ..I ended up cutting down some longer bolts..

Yep I will be painting parts black again. I just wanted the corrosion protection underneath and the plating process also gets rid of all rust.

Motor mount bolts accounted for thanks

I took photos of everything and bagged and labeled it all....took me 4 hours.

The last car I did I used a local plating shop but alas the EPA is driving these guys out of business... Next year I am planning on doing a total Concurs, resto on my 89-s Full paint ect, back to showroom.. I think there is on plate shop here in buffalo but it would be handy to have the adder/contact info for your plate shop up in the great white north...Can you share contact info? web? Adder?

I am guessing that these guys are not into shipping. They do a ton of oil field/industrial stuff. They only do one load of small projects at a time so they do not mix batches up. It's a family business.

I will check with them on my next load.

If you would like...and others, I don't mind being a contact for anyone that needs stuff done. I would not be looking to do this for money, I just like helping out. I'm kinda the opposite to Lart He likes taking 951's apart.....I like putting 951's together.

I will PM you with the name of the place, but as I said if you need me as a go between I don't mind if they are not into shipping.

Hi - when you have your suspension bits re-plated, do you need to remove the rubber bushings first? Will the cleaning and plating process kill the bushings?

Yes you need to remove the rubber for sure.

It is dipped in acid first and of course it will not plate where you have rubber covering metal.

No, you don’t have to.

You technically don't need to, the acid they use is a pickle prep. Most rubber is ok if it's quick.

The chromate itself is applied after the zinc. The zinc plating process is not harmful to rubber. It's what gives it that golden look.

I received back yellow zinc plated hardware and they have that pinkish green tint similar to Frank’s. New hardware from Porsche have more of a gold finish. Has anyone found a process or shop that can reproduce the Porsche finish and color for hardware?

I believe it might be the difference between zinc phosphate and zinc chromate.

Porsche is phosphate

My stuff is chromate

There is a shop here in Calgary that does phosphate but I have not used them.
