Default Advice on car choice...please

I know there have been numerous searches but I must ask. I would like a 944 turbo that has very good horsepower and options. I prefer to keep it slightly modified (chip) with low mileage. Is the 89 "S" the premier 944 for these reasons? I really like the stock fuch's or cookies(1986 only?) This car is for shows and short road trips/touring (no track). However I like a tight, gripping suspension. How is the AC??? Good service I know needs new belts, water pump, seals, etc. Is the 89 a g50 trans? Leak down test? How is the stock paint after 16 years? Dependable? I canspend between 15-$20,000. I am thinking about trading down from my beloved 993 c2-S, tiptronic. Just need to conserve funds now and stay in the game. Trades? mine is blk, blk with19K miles in mint condition. Anyhow, I'm trying to figure out wich is considered the overall "Best" 944 Turbo in stock (or slightly modified) form. See you soon. Thank's

For your purposes, an "S" is certainly not necessary, unless you just have to have the most exclusive 944 turbo there is. The fuchs (cookies were not available w/the turbo) were only an option in 86. If you can swing for this car:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2445653228
pick it up. I've been around a lot of 944s, and have not seen one nicer than this, you won't be dissapointed.

That is your 951 right there! that is one amazing 944 turbo. Otherwise to answer a few questions, most of that stuff you mentioned is a must check befire buying. You didn't mention PPI, though i didnt, everyone here seems to swear by them, and they know better then me. Of course I didnt have rennlist when i bought mine. From what your saying, it sounds like the 88 turbo S or 89 turbo isnt exactly for you. those should be kept stock, and cherished by insane 944 lovers... you sound like you need an 86-88 non S type. the aircondition on these cars, if they work, is surprising to say the least. Mine works better then a brand new infinity, much better. the paint will last after 16 years, depending on the habits of previous owners. mine was covered and garaged constantly, so the 17 year old origiona paint looks good. but rock chips are an inevitable curse on these cars. What kindo of trade are you looking at, not that i'm interested, just curious. Good Luck!

Wait, I thought that eBay car was up a few months ago? I think I remember somebody commenting on how they didn't want to buy a car that was stored under a 911 and having it leak all over the nice paint!

Let me do a search, I'm sure I've seen that ad before.

I swear I saw that ad posted here a while back. Unfortunately, a SEARCH for "eBay" didn't help much. Maybe the buyer flaked, but this car with these same pics were up a while ago. Too bad, a gorgous car!

That garage contains a 911 RS lightweight, and one of the 63? (maybe 67) 964 turbo S slantnose, or the 964 turbo w/ 7k miles parked above it. That car parked above the 944 has an engine that practically looks cleaner than one you'd see at a show room. It's not dripping anything...

The car was on e-bay before, and the reserve wasn't met, nothing I can see to worry about.

Maybe I want an "S"... Then I can keep it stock & have the performance. Must bring a few more grand to the asking price. Please allow me to correct an earlier statement and concur that I shall be MOVING UP to a 951 from my 993. My trade would be for an ultra clean 944 turbo + the agreed monetary difference. Can someone clarify the horsepower difference through the different years of the 944 turbo... please. That red car is perfect. I need to sell my car 1st or trade it in IF IT REALLY is a clean car.... anyone nearby that can check it out or recommend a great PPI place? I'm not thrilled buying a car out of state but if I can get some good help it could actually be fun! One more thing, I'm still not sure how you all feel about the AC? Decent, Great, Needs modification???
Thank's again

R134 works pretty well. 217 hp for early (86-88), 247 for S or later (89+).

I think it depends on the condition of the car itself, rather than the design. As with any component, it depends on how it was maintained. When I bought my 944n/a, the AC was non-functional, but I just recharged the system with about 28oz of R12 I got on eBay and now I'm getting 50degrees F at the vents.
