Flipping headlights
Hi All
So I have just change the belts on my 83NA and in doing so I disconnected the battery and hand cranked the lights up a bit to allow me to remove/replace the airbox inlet tube from the inner wing. Having completed the job and test started the car everything seemed great so I packed up my tools etc ready to go back in the house. As I was leaving the car the headlights began flipping up and down without stopping - clearly she was pleased with the new belts
I suspect it has something to do with the limit switches/contacts - I noticed when cranking the lights up that there was some resistance in the mechanism but thought it would sort itself out when the power was back on but seems not. Does anyone have any ideas what to try?

Update - So far so good, ran out of time when the lights were operating by themselves and just disconnected the battery and left it. Went back to the car 3 days later and connected the battery - no light issues at all, GREAT!

I'm wondering if the relay for the flip up motor was malfunctioning and after it sat without power for a while, it is working again? May be worth a new relay just to make sure it does not happen again.....

Yes most likely the relay. You can tap it with the handle of a screwdriver and get it working again sometimes. Once it starts failing, I found the flip returns and the relay will need to be replaced. Inexpensive part.

Just a quick idea if it ever happens again, pull the relay next to the connector on the headlight motor itself. Then you just have manual lights and can drive home in the dark

Thankjs, good idea, I will tuck that away. I noticed the relay through the headlight motor rubber boot which is split, so maybe the issues are related. Not to self get/repair boot..
