Default Weltmeister Chips for 1986 944 worth it

i was looking at chips and such to improve performance for my 1986 944 and i was wondering what i should get. The Weltmeister Chip that is 300 dollars or the performance upgrade kit that consist of a recalibrated throttle response cam, a free-flowing K&N air filter element and a new Autothority Performance computer chip for 342 dollars.

Also I was wondering how much horsepower and torque that would increase.

You will get a better response by posting this question on the 924/944/951/968 forum.

It is my understanding that the throttle response cam gives the illusion of more power, but really only changes the rate at which the accelerator is engaged.

The jury is out on K&N filters.

My S2 has a chip and the maker claims 8-12 HP increase over stock (from 208 to about 216-220).However, I am not sure that you can expect the same gains from the 2.5 liter engine.

My guess is that you will experience better low-end, as did I, but that the overall power increase will be marginal.

For comparison, my S2 chip was $150 and was produced by an individual that to my knowledge does not do a chip for your car.

Best of luck.

I put in a W/m chip in my 87 and I could tell a small difference, most in the mid range also revs faster, I got my chip on ebay for 31 bucks. So it was worth it for me.

The intake on the 944/924 is already cold air.

Those cone intakes aren't "cold" intakes because they are drawing
from the engine compartment.

There is very little to be gained with 944na motors.

Here are some dyno charts of 944-spec race cars

http://members.rennlist.com/m758/944SpecDynoCharts.htm

Not much power out there.

Chips = 2-3 hp
Cone filter = 0 or possible lost hp
Headers = Stock tubulars are the best
muffler Stock is fine. No gain with even a straight pipe
Cat = Maybe power gain from no cat.
Wires & Plugs = 0 hp
