Default Knocking noise from Timing belt area

OK, I just picked up my first 944 (1987), and from the 100's of posts I have read here, I need to replace my timing and balance shaft belts. I will do so in a few weeks, but for now, when it is running, I hear a slight knocking sound coming from the plastic cover over these two belts. I am going to check the belts over tomorrow, but does this sound serious? The car was a one owner, and looks to have been pretty well taken care of, except for some unknown wiring that is sloppy. No receipts as to when the belts were last changed.

Knocking sound coming from the plastic cover...metallic or muddled?

A very loose belt can/will make a muddled slapping sound. Pull the belt covers and take a look.

It was fairly muddled. The belt didnt seem too bad when I pulled the cover. I will try to replace it soon.
