Damsel in distress... Little help?
Hey guys, here's the deal:
I'm curious as to what someone would need to
do to a 1986 1/2 944S to blow two diffs and a
ring and pinion.
Give me an honest answer, and I'll explain why
I'd like to know.

Smokey burnout clutch dumps are fun, but can have seriously adverse affects on differentials and the ring and pinion. Chances are, a clutch dump could of killed the first one or even both, but improper tolerances on the rebuild could also kill them.

The R&P's are sensitive to the "shimming" process, hence the tolerances mentioned by Jack. They are pretty durable transmissions, but are NOT "burn-out" muscle-car auto-slop boxes. They usually last well over 100k before the R&P starts to get sloppy.
I vote the same as Jack... Smokey burnout clutch dumps. If that's what someone needs, they should buy an old Mustang

First if it is an S it is an 87. the first time was probably wear, the second was as the other guys said improper tolerances when built or too hard in launching.
