Default Just bought a 87' 944 na, looking to drop $6500 HELP

hows it going guys?
I just bought this 944, had salvaged title but thats just because of a small fender bender on the rear
But we won't worry about that, I'm just interested into getting it to run like brand new and to increase the hp signaficantly
As well as add fiberwerks front bumper, ifc rear bumper side skirts
I would like to add a wing, and a front hood scoop or air vents

If this community which has already helped me so much already would want to throw some ideas at me of what you guys think i should do with the car with a budget of $6500 that an 18 year old man like myself would love to drive to show off to his friends.

Heres some pics to show you what im working with here

First off; Welcome and Congrats! The car looks to be in great shape!

Ok now If you want it to Run like Brand New, and Have Significantly more Horsepower you have Two Real Options:

#1 Buy, Rebuild and Install a Chevy V8
#2 Buy, Rebuild and Install an S2 Engine

**There is no practical way of significantly increasing an 87' 944's Horsepower... But with a $6,500 budget the two options above can be easily accomplished -with plenty of change left over.

As for a "Wing" your best bet is to install a 968 spoiler, they look great and are pretty much plug and play. Remember this is a Porsche not a Honda... *Keep the build respectable... NO WINGS, or COFFEE CAN EXHAUSTS! HA HA

Personal Opinion: If you want the car to look instantly cooler pickup some newer Porsche Rims, got these off a 911 for $400!

p.s. You must know/learn how to do all your own work, and buy/own tools! or $6,500 will be gone after a clutch job, and a few oil changes...

If you've been reading the forums, you should know that lots of young guys like yourself buy these cars but don't have the money to fix/maintain them. This is your chance to break the mold! Your $6500 will go long way:

Has the timing belt/rollers/water pump been replaced recently? Has the clutch been replaced? Engine mounts? Are the tires in good shape? Brakes and rotors? Replace the plugs, wires, air and fuel filter and distributor cap. Car could probably use shocks too. You could improve the handling significantly by upgrading the sway bars. Replace fuel lines in the engine bay to prevent a fire, and upgrade the headlights and headlight wiring harness.

If after all this, you still have money. Save it for future repairs. You could get a few more horsepower with a chip, headers and exhaust. But the hp gains will be modest, and perhaps come at the expense of mid range torque. Skip the hood scoops and wing - that will only give it more 'show' that it can't really back up with 'go' - in a straight line at least.

The car looks good! Enjoy it!

Welcome aboard. Yeah if your looking for real power don't even think of doing that with the NA. Rouge's kit headers.ignition, exhuast (cat delete) is about it.

968 swap is interesting but I think that might be more involved than a V8? Tons of info on a V8 swap not so much on the 968 swap.

Have fun and I like that nose piece!

Great Idea Itdan it's been awhile. I've been really busy working on the car and think you guys are going to be surprised by the almost finished product.

Here are some of the most updated pics. Once I have sometime I'm going to make something to show the project from start to finish.

Looks good, do you have a front shot? Now you need some bigger brakes to fill out those wheels.

yeah what kind should I get? Now front shot yet still need to install front windshield, nose valence and headlights. Turn signals and Fogs. Putting in 6000k 55w white DDM Tuning HIDS for Headlights and 2000k 55w yellow for the fogs. Will post once all that is done.
