If you don't buy it, I will!

I think it's worth $1,500, but I'd let him keep the BBS meshies and take the cookie cutters. If you need tires, I've got a set you can have, free. The cookie cutters are nearly worthless so don't let him tack on another $200 for a "package deal". The BBS mesh wheels are worthless, you might get $100 on a good day if you try to sell them.

It looks pretty good and finding an early dash in that good of condition is nearly impossible, which is one small clue that the car was not neglected. The fact that it has maintenance records proves the car was maintained, but how does it run? Any smoke from the tailpipe?

Anyway, if you need it, I've got a transmission and I might also have a good used clutch/flywheel.

Personally I'd offer him $1,500 for the car, BBS wheels and cookie cutters. If you want to pay more, that's up to you.

Well im just kinda worried about getting into a mess of a project because that what happend with my other 944. He has a seperate ad for the cookie cutters for $695 with no tires which i think is ridiculous. I just wouldnt have the time to especially do the clutch, I've done a couple trannys and that took us about 3-4 hours with 3 people. I asked him if its driveable at all and he said it is, so it could be the clutch thats screwed up and so that affecting the transmission? Im just afraid itll be another headache.

So im not quite sure what i should do, i just dont have the time to do the repairs on it (clutch, transmission). If i offered him like 1700 with the car and cookie cutters, that would leave me with about 1500-1600.

So he's the retard that wants $695 for cookies! I've seen those on Craigs for a month now, he's going to have those for a long time.

Don't worry about wheels, I've got 2 sets of 15" cookie cutters, 2 sets of 16x7-8" turbo phone dials and a set of 16x8" Enkei 92's that will all fit this car.

A transmission swap can be done in an afternoon, the clutch is a little more involved and will take a day or 1 day for both the clutch and tranny. If the problem is the transmission, then I have one out of an '86 that is known to be good that I'd let you have for $150. If you don't have time to do the clutch then pay a mechanic to do it. Didn't you budget around $3,500 for a 944? The motor is my only concern, how many miles on it? Do you know how to run a compression test? If not, do you know a mechanic that can inspect it?

Without seeing and driving the car, there is no way to know if it's the clutch, clutch master/slave or the transmission.

Out of curiosity, can you ask him how he came up with a price of $695 for his cookie cutters? Has he done any research or did he just look at an overpriced Ebay listing and figured that's what they're worth. If so, tell him I'll do him a favor and I'll sell him both of my sets for $800. To someone who is unemployed, that's like getting $600 for free!

Actually, don't do that

...and don't pay more than $1,500 for the car. This isn't the only one out there!

Just keep in mind that if you're buying a 944 for $1500-3000, and you plan to keep it at all, purchase price will be a very small part of the cost of ownership. So a sorted car that needs a clutch might not be too bad...

the red 944 for $1700 seems liek agood deal. best thing you can do is go check it out in person and offer him what you want you think the car is worth. buying a 944 that needs work fora fair price isnt a bad idea. by fixing it you will be reassured that the work is done properly, you wil have a sense of pride in ownership, and ther car will mean more to you because of this. you have a strong network of people here that can help with advice and ALFAPU has offered you parts and time to help you and thats a great guy right there! i've been looking for a nice se tof cookie cuters for my 85.5 and i'll be darned if i can find a set for under $200..and this guy will give you a set! it just doesnt get any better thanthat. i say go for it if its what you really want.

Hey i found this one in Portland that doesnt look to bad

http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/2104066318.html

I remembered when i was sitting in my yellow one (the parts car), it had the brown interior. I thought..this doesnt look bad at all, so i might go look at this one if he says it has manual steering.

It will have manual steering and a manual sunroof.

I think he's asking too much for a car that still needs work and is covered in rock chips. I still think the red one is a better buy.

If you buy the blue one, don't let him install the 951 diffuser!

yea i agree about the diffuser, im going to offer 2500 for it. he said the clutch is great and it has no leaks except for a small brake leak which he tops it off once a month. the brake light comes on and warns you to top the brake fluid off, sounds like a line going to a caliper.

Or it could be a caliper piston seal, brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder. All of which are pretty easy to replace, just check all the systems before driving it any great distance.
