I just looked up your Craigslist post and it looks like you've got transmission parts all over the place. I've got a good tranny too if you need it.

As mentioned, I've got a storage unit full of parts! I'd let this stuff go cheap to a local since I have no use for it right now. You'd actually be doing me a favor by helping me clear out some stuff!

Well, if you find one with a bad motor or transmission, I've got one.

Too bad you didn't post a WTB ad on Craigslist for a motor, I'm currently sitting on three of them and I've got two extra transmissions. I check CL almost every day in search of a good deal.

glad to hear you're going to wait, and you've expanded your color choices. try to drive as many cars as you can before you make a decision, and check the option codes. I really like the look of the 15" Fuchs on these cars, and LSD + Koni's is a great bonus should you find a car with them. with these cars being 27 years old, records are everything. find a car with all the routine work done so you can drive it while you sort it.

as far as the later trans, yes, you can use one. later cars have the electronic speedometer, so you have block off that on trans. don't know if they are stronger or not.

Oh and also i've been wondering how good the security was on these cars and how common they are to break in. My friend had his 84 for sale by the local grocery store and we went to check it out the next day after he put it up for sale and someone tried pry up under the sunroof. Whenever he would park somewhere he would take the main coil out too.

The one for $1700 is back up!
http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/2097050554.html

Since it didn't sell the first time it was on Craigslist, you should offer them $1,200 and show them the cash. By listing it at $1,700, this shows that they are expecting $1,500 out of it. Offering them $1,200 is a little bit of a loss, but since it is not selling and they've got a buyer waving $1,200 cash in their face, they'll probably take it.

If they won't take $1,200, then offer them $1,300, then $1,350.

Yes, change the oil.

The likelyhood of these cars being stolen or vandalized depends on where you park it, anyone with a rock and pocket knife could steal these cars. It's an old Porsche that most people mistake for a gen-2 RX7, these are not in high demand to theives. The only thing you have to watch out for is prowlers trying to steal your stereo or ex-girlfriends trying to set fire to your car. My cars have never been messed with, but I live in a secluded neighborhood and my girlfriend doesn't have a key to the garage.

BTW, never leave your car in a grocery store parking lot with a for sale sign in it! That just screams "hey, come mess with me, my owner is nowhere around".

Hey i had a couple questions, i emailed the guy that has his 85 944 with the early dash on craigslist for 1700 and asked him for pictures. I was wondering what the differences were between 83-84 to 85? I know that the control arms are steel in the 83-84 right?

All the suspension is steel up to 85.5.

It's not difficult to convert to manual steering, you just need the rack and steering shaft with u-joints. I made brackets for one of my cars so I could use a 924 manual steering rack, but I wouldn't advise this since an '83 manual rack just bolts right in.

Alright guys i talked to the guy with the red 1985 944 for 1700, he also gave me some pictures and i wanna know what you guys think. He said that hes been the owner for 6-7 years and have used it to for a daily driver, the front engine seals got replaced and no leaks. The timing belt got replaced and the front struts and rear shocks got replaced too. He has all the maintence records available, he said that when he was driving one day a truck tire flew up and hit the header panel so he got that repainted and fixed. Its all stock except for the cd player, He said one day he was driving and couldnt shift into 3rd gear and said the clutch also need to be replaced. The sunroof also works good, he also has the stock black cookie cutter wheels that he would sell to me in a package. What do you guys think? He also said that the hatch does not leak at all.
