New 944 owner.

Hi all. Just want to check in to say hi to all fellow 944'ers. I am in the process of trading my bike with a 1987 944. Mileage is in the 150K, but seems to be well taken care and maintained. I have always wanted a porsche since I was a kid, now I can. Please feel free to give me some advice what to watch for. I have read a few articles about usual things that needs attention.

Congrats on the purchase of the 944 and pics ftw.
I too just purchased mine and love it.
It's been well maintained and won't need to worry about anything for awhile as the previous owner recently did all the maintenance to the car before the sale.
My best advice is to sit down for a few hours and do as much research as you can to discover all that is the 944 and how to keep it maintained.
If you're a tinkerer and like to work on the cars, you'll fit right in with this.

I too have an 87' 944, and here are a few general tips:
Know for sure when the Timing Belt and Water Pump were last done, and change if more than 30k miles.
Bad Oil/Cooler seals will kill your car quickly....Check the coolant for oil on surface *(milkshake looking)/ change the oil and put into a clear jug; let it settle and look for coolant on the bottom.
Enjoy your new car, ask questions, a lot of knowledge on this forum!!!!

Hello everyone... I just got my first 944 yesterday. This car is sweet!!!! I am new to the Porsche world so any help would be greatly needed. I do know that the car has 125000 on the body and 2000 on the engine with a total rebuild. I have all papers on that.... She is soooooo fun to drive...

Leon, the first thing I would do before you drive your car is do a belt inspection. Even if you know the history I would remove the cover and look at the TB. You can actually get a good look at it by removing the top screws and bending the cover out of the way. Have someone turn the engine over very slowly and inspect every tooth and every inch of the belt. If you see anything that does not look perfect do not drive the car and do the belt job. If any oil or water is on the belt do not drive the car and do the belt job. I know this is not an exact science and it should be changed but at least if the Tbelt looks very good I think your chances of it lasting a while go up dramatically.

BryO, you car is insanely shiney. Sorry to get off topic, and I'm new here so maybe I missed you other posts. But what year is that and what have you done to make it look that good?
