Last weekend I formally replaced my '85.5 NA 944 with this beautiful lady....

She has a small list of little items to tackle, only blows heat, something wonky in the e-brake handle isn't engaging the ratchet mech., p.o. stated something seemed to happen to a front strut last time he drove it. By a huge margin the nicest old car (starting point anyway) I've ever brought home.

Gorgeous car, really like the colors! Congratulations! Mine is so different from my 951, that it's great contrast. Enjoy!

Last weekend I dressed up her wheels a bit, fixed the heater (clip) and non-op parking brake. This weekend she gets a new belts and fresh fluids :-)

Finally got rid of horrible shifter slop and rattle. Installed new short shift linkage and new short lever (similar to Lindsey racing version). Next up, new front wheel bearings and ball joints...along with a few other tidbits.

I'm reaching a tipping point with my paint. thinking of plastidipping the horizontal surfaces black while the weather is good.

Front wheel bearings, rebuilt ball joints (rennbay kit), painted front rotor centers (looking rusty). Going to rewire front parking lights (euro city lights) to also work as DRLs, paint rear rotor centers and reglue some interior carpet pieces. Then I'm done until I buy a new head unit.

Leaving the top down? This is the first convertible I've ever owned so your advice would be appreciated... How long do you leave the top down, just when driving, just during the day, all summer? What is the common practice? The manual seems to prefer having the top up as much as possible...

ive left my top down for long periods during the summer months. garage kept, so never needed to put it up. it can scuff up the plastic window in the back, so some have improvised work arounds on that. i think some can be found in this thread. other than that, haven't found any real negative. YMMV

Thanks! Yes, AZBanks recommend one of those soft foam pool swim noodles in the fold of the back window when the top is down. I'll follow your example and leave the top down all summer since my car is also garage kept. I don't want it to end up like the 911 on Californication...

is the pool noodle not leaving pool noodle grain (or are our local pool noodles just that much more porous/bumpy than yours?) in your window?

i guess you could wrap it in a towel. its under the tonneau so no one would see anyway. besides, the small marks/scuffs it gets can be gotten out with swirl remover anyway. yellowing is a different story.
