Question 944 S2 Cam Chain Tens Pad

I read a lot of different forums about changing the cam chain tensioner pad. How can you tell if it needs to be changed also what should I expect to pay to have it changed? I may be able to do it myself or is it a difficult repair ? Thanks for all the help

It's actually not a difficult repair to do. The part costs $24 from Zims. In all it takes less than an hour.

I would definately replace it if you are over 100,000 miles on your car.

but you should also do the oil tube that goes to the tensioner as they tend to crack, and the valve cover gasket/sparkplug seals/bolt seals, since they will more than likely be very brittle. . . mine were. I'm doing the entire tensioner, and chain as well, but I tend to be paranoid and this is cheap (not very) insurance.
