Default 84 944 air flow sensor

Little help! My 84 944 decided not to start, engine turns over but won't start. O have a popping noise coming form the air flow sensor, does theis mean it has finally bit the dust. My Dad bought this car new! There is no fuel coming from the engine, battery is strong, I am stuck! Any words of wisdom? Thanks

Curt, couple of things. Where are you? Location in your info helps if others are near and my want to volunteer to help. In a no start, you want to start simple. Pull one spark plug, ground it against the engine and look at it while someone cranks it over (checking for spark). Second, check for fuel pressure at the rail. You can do this by carefully removing the 19mm cap from the front end of the rail. If you have fuel there, chances are good that the pump is working. If no spark, next replace the DME relay. It is on the main fues panel, under the driver's side of the dash in early cars. Test one thing at a time, post results here. Also try posting this on the main 927/931/944/951 board, as there is a ton more traffic there.
