Default Keys and Cylinder

Hey, new owner of a 1987 944 base. Love the car fixing a few items on it now but one thing that hasn’t worked since I bought it is the door locks. The key sticks in but they don’t turn, neither the driver nor passenger side. So the car can’t lock. Two different mechanics say the cylinders need to be changed. The problem is everywhere I look or they look they only seem to be able to find packs of one cylinder and one key. Does anyone know where I can get a set of 2 cylinders with 1 key so the drivers side and passenger side doors can be on the same key? Should I call a locksmith? Any tips at all?

If you have an ignition key that works, you are off to a good start.

You will need to remove the outer door handles from each of the doors. At that point, you will need to take both door handles and the key that works in the igntion to your locksmith, who can modify the key tumblers of the door handles to work with the key. At the same time, have the locksmith make a couple of extra keys, in case you lose one.

My locksmith charged me $50 to rekey the tumblers.

Reinstall the door handles and you are golden.

The procedure to remove the door handles is here:
