Default Dim Oil Light

The oil light on my 1984 Porsche 944 has started to turn on while driving. It is very dim and I only notice it while driving at night. It's odd that it is only dimly lit because I know the light can be bright--it lights up as I start the car.

Perhaps relatedly, the oil pressure gauge is always maxed out at 5.

Any recommendations on how I should go about resolving this issue? I'm new to the classic Porsche world but excited to learn.

🙏🙏

Replace your oil pressure sender (which also has a low oil pressure switch for the light.)

Does the gauge peg at 5 with the key on even before the car is running? If so, the wires on the sender are reversed, the sender is bad, or there's an issue behind the gauges with the foil.

The wires into the sender were damaged. I spliced them together and am now getting a reading on the gauge.

The oil light was likely triggered because the oil filter hasn't been changed since 2019. I replaced the oil and filter and no longer have a dim oil light and gauge is showing ~4 bar.

Thanks for the support, @Petza914 and @931guru
