Are all 944 waterpumps the same?
I have Magneti Marelli WPQ0931 waterpump that I've bought as a spare when I had a 944. I have buyer that is interested in it, however the question is did all 944 came with the same kind of waterpump or will it fit 1987 944?
I've found info that:
Porsche 924S 1986-88
Porsche 944 2.5L 1982-86 (not Turbo) *requires adaptor kit
Porsche 944 2.5L 1987-88 (not Turbo)
Porsche 944S 2.5L 1987-88
but I am not 100% sure about it.

That is an early style water pump; the only cars it might have a chance to fit are 1982-1984 cars that are currently using that type of pump.
The "late" pump has added bosses for a metal bar that separates the two halves of the timing belt.

Can you please post bigger pictures?
When I google this pump, I get pictures with those studs ("bosses") to hold the bar mentioned by V2Rocket.
I plan to replace the pump on my 924S from 1986 (it already has an updated/late pump that was installed some 15 years ago) and thought of buying this Magneti Marelli WPQ0931. Thus some bigger sized picture would be quite helpful to me.
Most sellers of this pump state it's compatible with (amongst others) 944 106 021 20 and 944 106 021 22.

Hi, I just bought such a Magneti Marelli WPQ0931 water pump too and parallel also a Saleri Sil PA1604. The two look completely identical except that the Saleri has a second opening on that rhombus shape, which is closed on the MM. The MM also has the two studs for the protecting blade. I go to my mechanic on the weekend and then we'll see if the MM pump fits to my 924S from 1986. FYI: the MM cost 60 € and the Saleri was 150 €...

The extra opening is the water feed for the turbo. You can blank it off with an un-drilled plastic elbow (most pump vendors that only do the one casting for both NA and turbo ship a blanking elbow with the pump for use on the NA).

Yeah, I know. The elbow is included in the Saleri, but I haven't yet opened the packaging to check if it's closed. I don't need to drill it of course. I'm just puzzled by the very significant price difference between the two...

MM built the hydraulic actuation system on the gearbox in my Vanquish. It wasn't ready for prime-time yet either.

So yesterday the change happened. The Magneti Marelli pump itself fits perfectly, but the place for the thermostat is somehow different, so that with the new thermostat from Borg Warner the seeger c-clip couldn't be fit in. One could have surely played around with thinner gaskets or look for another seeger or thermostat, but these were no op@tions. So eventually we built in the Saleri SIL PA1604 pump. There the thermostat and seeger fit well. However, this Saleri pump is delivered with that plastic connector for the additional turbo pipe and the connector is not closed... So we had to find another elbow connector that was closed; luckily my mechanic had one. Like this however I can't connect the power steering hose to the water pump anymore.
All in all my conclusion is that the databases of part dealers in the Internet are not 100% correct and the OE numbers also just add further to the confusion.
Next time I will either by a Magneti Marelli pump with a thinner thermostat / thinner seeger or I buy the Saleri PA1603. Or I experiment with another manufacturer. For now I hope to have peace for at least 5-8 years The pump we replaced was made in 1988 and yet original from Porsche and was in a good shape, except for the sediments in it resulting from my car having been running many years with pink coolant, which we now also replaced with Glysantin G48, the original from BASF with Porsche approval (blue-green in color).
