Default Future 944 owner?

I am currently thinking of purchasing a 944, 1985.5 or newer. The color combo l really like is black or silver with black Fuchs. I plan on driving it to work occasionally and using it for autocross and DE. My friends say go with the turbo. An independent mechanic says S2 for autocross but the turbo would be fun otherwise. And of course I'm debating on how much is reasonable. I've seen a beautiful STD at $5k, S2 at $10k, and turbos from $10k up to $109k...yeah, not a typo. I am currently considering a fully restored '87 garnet red turbo at $13,600 with about 150k miles and new engine. And talking to the dealership, tech says to go with an older 911, that parts for 944 are getting harder to find.

1. So any autocrossers out there that can answer which is better?

2. What is a "fair" price for a 1985.5 + 944? Which I know can be very subjective.

3. Any issues with getting parts for 944s?

How much do you want to spend? You won't get anywhere near a solid, running, 911 ['74-'83] for $10k...much less $20k.

1. S2...for the linear throttle response, and 3.0L torque below 2500 rpm.
2. Depends...on condition, maintenance, options, and condition.
3. Not really...most parts [90%+], minus the Motorsports bits, are still readily available. Plus, there are quite a few supportive dismantlers in the community.

Thanks for the response back. I did buy a 1990 944 S2 Cab for $5k. It has 182k miles but in excellent condition. Still original interior with only 2 small stress tests on the passenger seat Took it to my mechanic for PPI and he said it was excellent and in better shape than newer cars with half the mileage. It needed the usual, fluids, hoses, belts, water pump and clutch.

$5K for an S2 in excellent condition...that was a well-negotiated purchase. And red/tan, to boot...one of the all-time classic combinations. Congrats!

Thank you. Great price but still having to put more than I paid for it to get it road ready. However the way I look at it is if I brought one with less miles for more money, the work still was still needed. I called several of the sellers posted online and most still didnt know when or if the water pump and belts were done. And still needed tires. At least this way I know. And I plan on driving it for another 180k!!
