S2 Brake disc confusion
Hi everyone.
I'm not new on the forum, but new with my 1990 944 S2 (without M 030 option, with ABS), after selling my 964 Carrera 4 and thereafter my 996 Carrera a (long) while ago.
It's been 2 weeks since I purchased the S2 and when I checked the brakes, I found that the rear discs (rotors) were below the minimal thickness levels. When I look up on PET or online sources, I get 951.352.041.02 code, however what I have on the car are 951.352.041.01 discs, which are supposed to be from the earlier 944 turbo.

951.352.041.01 (70 mm depth), what's on the car...
The main difference is the depth of the whole rotor. If I were to order the correct parts with 100mm depth, the discs would go further in and touch the abs sensors.
Since the trailing arms seem to be correct, are there different hubs that would extend further out (by about 30mm) to accept the discs with 100mm depth? How can I return my car's setup to fully original?

Paragon Products has what you need, I don't own an S2 so not 100% sure of size but they show a rear rotor that fits all S2's.

Thanks for your reply. It is a bit more complex than finding the rotor that will fit.
My continuing search on the internet seems to confirm that my wheel hub has been changed to an older version (1986 turbo) and the rotor is therefore of that car. I don't know why one would do such a stupid swap! I am trying to verify this assumption and, if I so find the correct hub. But I am getting discouraged seeing prices of 1200 USD+ per hub.

I was gonna just chime in and joke that the thread title -

sounds like it could have been track #4 on a Jimi Hendrix album...
But since you are genuinely stumped, lets set if we can find out what's going on here.
What wheels are on the car...?
Is the front lower control arm aluminum or steel...?
Does the car have factory abs...?

Well if the previous owner made mods without leaving you records then yeah, little more complicated.
This forum will be able to help. As T mentioned above, let's figure out what you have. Pics are always useful.

The rear brake pads are exactly the same size as the standard front "930" pads. The rear rotors have a diameter of 299 mm (11.77 in) and a thickness of 24 mm (0.94 in)."

Thanks everyone. I didn't have the chance to go on the forum last week, sorry for not responding earlier.
One of the previous owners replied to my emails, and it seems the mystery is solved. The hubs are from 86 Turbo indeed. The guy had a 86 Turbo in parts and when the disc was due for replacement, he wanted to use those discs. However, the discs of the 86 turbo did not fit without changing the hubs too. Luckily the ABS picks up its signal not from the hub, but from the "rear wheel shaft", which goes between the axle and the hub. Therefore, the ABS was not effected. The problem is that he does not have the S2 hubs anymore.
Although there are many second hand hubs on ebay, customs will not allow import of used parts. So I keep searching locally for second hand hubs.

Well, the car is a genuine 1990 S2 as confirmed by the VIN.
Oh, and all S2's have ABS as standart I believe.
