Not the reason I asked the question.
I was implying what had been done to this car so that the rub strips had been deleted.
To me that indicates at least a re-spray. But from the rest of the appearance wondering why someone would spend the extra money for the rub strip delete?
Possible accident damage then?

Gotcha.
A lot of people don't like the look.
Removing them is worth the time/effort to those people. Original ones are mounted through holes in the sides. Those holes have to be filled. There are 'better' and 'not so better' ways of doing that.
Some cars came without them. They were an option.
But, like the sunroof, the majority of cars had them. So a "rubstrip delete" (option not included) is considered a plus by a lot of folks.

Thank you all for your expertise. I believe I will part ways. We could not agree on a sub $5k price. With all your help I would probably be $15k+ in a restore and that is way too much for a vehicle with no history and the condition it is in. It saddens me to see this amazing muscle car sit in a dusty warehouse. Hopefully someone will ****** it up and take care of it. Would love to have that German V8 though! A 928 is on the list but patience is a virtue I suppose...for now I will continue to enjoy my 951

I saw Ed's '85 this weekend. It's a sweet car and he's not done with it yet.
Do you want turnkey or do you want a project, or something in between? So pay now for a car that needs much less work, or pay later on a car that does. Hopefully, you can do the work yourself.... huge difference.
I'd recommend deciding generally, what year/generation you want, auto or manual, etc., make it known here, and this resource will help facilitate your search. The 928s For Sale thread can be very useful.
