Default Bay Area people :)

Have you, guys, heard anything about Reitmeir's Werkstatt (web site)in Los Altos? A friend of mine had some work done on the AC in his 944 and was very pleased (and to get a 944 AC to actually work is not an easy fit). So, I wonder if it would make sense to take a 928 there. Thank you.

I generally would look for people who have specific 928 experience. Knowing a 944 is not the same as knowing the 928. The Climate Control system on the 928 is sooo complicated...

For AC work on the 928, consider San Carlos Radiator (I think it's www.sancarlosradiators.com) - they do all the AC work for DEVEK and many 928 owners in the area.

For mechanical work, we have DEVEK's sister company DynoTech. They have done lots of good jobs on my car. And they do things right the first time!

This Friday (tomorrow) from 6-9PM there is a grand opening party at a new place that also covers the 928 (among all other Porsches): Akkurat Performance Group in Redwood City (see www.akkuratpgi.com for the address). Anybody going?

Then we have places further South - there are two shops in Campbel that have good reputations: CT Automotive and T&D Performance.

On the East Bay there is Andreas Bauer in Oakland, who used to own a 928 (but I don't know anybody who had work done there). Further out towards the East is Danny Kahlers shop - I have heard good things about this place, but have never been there either.

I also hear there are people in SF and Marin, who know the 928 pretty well.

We do have quite a few choices in our area - even though they are not in the same neighborhood. But I think it's important that there is competition - it keeps everybody honest and hard working, and hourly rates from skyrocketing... ;-)

I had all my a/c work done by San Carlos Radiator through Devek and I'm very pleased with their work.

If in the Bay area, check out these guys:http:

www.akkuratpgi.com

Both George and Jim have TONS of 928 knowledge. I hear they are having an Open-house tomorrow. Wish I could be there to check out his cool wide-body 928.

Some of the other 928 gurus on this board ought to open up their own 928 repair shops...

Reitmeir's Werkstatt is a South Bay icon for early Porsches, especially the 356's. It's better to take our complicated beasts to a speciality shop such as DEVEK.

Cool AC work

I had AC work done on my car at San Carlos Radiator, through Devek, and Jim did the work. It got me throught the Mojave desert and then to Louisiana last summer, then something burned in the harness and now I open the window when its hot like I always did in previous Porsches. Well, it worked for a while. We haven't found the burned wires yet. Then San Carlos Radiator will get the car back to start all over again. Aw,....I would just spend the money on something foolish anyway. I suspect a faulty part but don't know for sure until Marc takes everything apart.
I doubt any of the work that was done is responsible, and maybe I will have found what was destined to be a worsening problem. For now I have no windshield wipers, so under 60 is "tense". And of course I don't have a heater or climate control either, and notice the simplicity of my Rabbit when all I need to do when I am cold is push one simple lever to allow hot water to flow into the heater core. SIMPLE is BEST. Of course, I must keep adjusting the lever to regulate the heat, but it is functional or can be made that way easily and inexpensively.

Take your car to San Carlos Radiator. Probably the most familar with 928s in this area. Take a bag of cash too. But why would anyone worry about AC in November?? Unless the rates go down in the winter ...supply and demand I guess.

I like my AC to work in the winter. When it rains, it keeps the windows from fogging up.

I had them do my alignment and it seemed like they did a pretty good job. It is pretty clear that they are more familiar with the aircooled beasts. I had just adjusted the ride height to within a couple of mm of spec. Their comment to me was that the car looked a little high. This leads me to believe they don't know alot about 928s.

I guess you had to learn the hard way, even though not by using Reitmeir's... ;-)
