Hi guys,

any idea where I can buy a new insert / mount which is used to attach the top of the fuel tank to the car? I can't really seem to find a part number of anything.
I read about a member cutting one himself from a stop sign, but unfortunately my original was destroyed, so I have no reference as to the dimensions.
If someone happened to have the dimensions, they're always welcome to share.

Any ideas how to get the remaining pieces out, are also welcome.

Ik denk dat dit niet los verkrijgbaar is. Ziet er uit als 1 geheel met de rest. Mijn '78-er heeft dat blokje niet maar wel de ontluchtingsaansluiting die van tank naar zwanehals gaat. De zwanehals wordt vastgehouden met een stalen band.

Just an idea here, but if you could get the dimension of the bracket you could have the shape cut out of a plate of aluminum with the mounting hole drilled through it. Then I would suggest drilling through the plastic block at each end being very careful to drill parallel through the block so as not to puncture the tank. Then you could run a couple of long 6mm or 8mm bolts through the new plate and the plastic block fastened with washers and nylon lock nuts. If you mount it as I show it below the new bracket will be offset from its mounting bolt receptacle a few millimeters. You could make this up with a bushing behind the mounting hole and a longer mounting bolt. Or you could have the new mounting plate bent to make of the difference.

That would work, only problem would be getting the dimensions.

Scale it off the picture.

First measure the plastic/urathane base on your tank as shown in your picture, but the actual tank. Then measure the width of the base in the picture. That is your scale. Then take the rest of the measurements off the bracket in the picture and convert them with your scale to full size.

Or, measure the one on one of your spare tanks.

Happen to have a fuel tank in my dining room, dimensions are 68 x 33.5 x 3.3mm.

Holler if there are any other measurements that would be handy.

Thanks guys, that's exactly what I need!

I have another question about the cover that is inside the fuel tank.
From what I understand it is meant to prevent the remaining fuel and fuel level sender to splash around when fuel is low.
I however don't really get how it is supposed to attach.
Or mine has been damaged over time, it was already loose when I took the fuel tank out.
If I can't get it to hold, I suppose there is not a lot of harm in removing it altogether (the cover that is)?

If I recall correctly, it is bonded together. The top broke off on #30. I just set it on top and pushed the sender back through it....can't go anywhere....

You need someone with small arms to place it on top of the 'bowl' and clip it back in place. Child labor works well:

Well, it was in the guest room but I moved it to measure stuff and take pics.

I'll have to look for someone else's child for the child labor part, making my own will take too long.

If a replacement mount is fitted as discussed (screwed to top by horizontal screws), will it need to have a bend in it to line up with the captive nut ? Mine is still working OK, but the allow has more than a little corrosion on it.
