Default Rev limiting Rotor?

New rotor, cap, wires and plugs today.
Can anyone tell me about this?
I'm guessing the plunger is supposed to ground ignition at high RPM?
Would this be original?

What car do you have?

That's the way rev limiting was done on early RoW cars. The RPM can be adjusted by bending the tang that holds the end of the spring.

US cars weren't graced with rev limiters. You could take them up to +7K easily with the rotor we have.

And yes, as the others have pointed out it is an original ROW rev limiting rotor, and a tired looking one at that.

US cars got the rev limiter in the spark box.

If you put a US rotor on a Euro (RoW) car there is no limiting. I had this and the engines sound amazing at 7000 RPM. I don't recommend it. Power tails off strongly at about 6500 RPMs, anyways.

Huh, I never felt it in the spark box. For some reason as soon as mine hits 6K it revs even faster to 7K. Plus it's CA spec at that....

I did not think the US models had a rev limiter of any sort. The built in rev limiter rotor cap seems to be available (928 602 904 05) and should be a drop in replacement to gain that function on US cars?

A review of the tech spec booklet shows:
"USA+Japan: speed governed by electronic cut-off of fuel pumps."

I recall reading that it was done in the spark box but maybe in the fuel pump relay?

^^ 78 & 79 show what you've noted, yet 80,81,82,83, & 84 Tech Spec books show 'USA without'.

I get more confused every day trying to figure out and remember what the differences and similarities are between models. There just seems no imaginable reason why some of these differences exist.
