I have a mold to cast duplicates of the originals. I could probably cast one for you. Then I am still short of completion of the process of covering them in leather as with the originals. What exactly do you mean that your's has "split down the shaft?"

If it's the same issue as I had, the rubber which is a couple of inches long below the actual **** split from the flex in the shifter from changing gears. Mine was the old rubber style without leather covering and flexed quite a bit. I ended up buying a new/used one and I notice it still flexes when I shift.

One problem might be that the **** is not pushed all the way down onto the shift stick. The top of the stick has two indents near the end and there are two mating bumps in the rubber at the top of the hole. If you push the **** down onto the stick until it feels like it wants to stop it then has about 5/8 of an inch further to be pushed to firmly seat in the indents. If left at the first stop that might be enough to give it too much flex when shifting. With the shift stick fully seated into the **** there should be almost no flex in the rubber of the ****.

I have one that I can get you at a nominal price. Essentially I have the whole outer shifter/boot assembly which is in decent shape with some leather wear. PM me if you want it!

That's weird. My S3 boot is one piece that covers (and was included with) the replacement **** that I bought. Is that because it's black? Did tan leather come with a separate boot like that?

The boot on your shifter is probably made by Paul C and is not the factory original. The grooves in the front and back of the now uncovered rubber shift **** are there to hide the seam allowance in the original leather covering which made up the boot and covered the entire **** up to and over the top and into the top recess where the stick shift pattern insert is resting.
Again, it looks to me like the reason the rubber shift **** is busted out is because it was not firmly seated all the way down over the shift stick.

It also looks like your **** that is split out up the shaft is fit over some kind of aftermarket shift stick. If so it might be that the shift stick has a larger girth than the original and is over-stretching the rubber of the shift ****. If that is the case any replacement **** is going to be overstressed in the same way.

The shifter is 928motorsports quick shifter, I didn't see a difference in the sizes when installing, 928motorsports makes no mention of the diffrent size, anyway the shifter and boot are sprayed don't know why my other 928 ob,the boot covers the entire shifter, the rubber portion of the shifter is really soft when I removed it to do the shifter swap,I noticed this my obviously the the rubber base is harder, SO that being said I still need a shifter.
