Default Chipset installation proceedures?

Anyone know if there is a site somewhere with a good explination on installing the two chips like what autothority sells? The lH and EZK both need to be opened, so I was trying to find out a good method of explaining it..

Thanks

brendan,
very simple.
lh has multiple metal tabs that hold the cover on. use a small screwdriver to bend the tabs and take the cover off. the chip you're replacing should be obvious (similar to the upgrade in size/shape)
carefully pry up the chip with a small tool. be careful not to bend/break any of the contacts. they are quite fragile. insert the new chip. make sure the notch is oriented in the same direction as the original. replace cover and bend tabs back into place.
ezk has 4 screws in each end of the box. remove these and the circuit board will slide out (actually 2 boards). you need to separate the 2 boards by unsnapping the plastic pins that separate them. again the chip should be obvious. same removal/replacement process. reassemble the boards and reinsert into the box. put in the screws and you're done.
be very careful with static electricity when you do this. its possible to damage some electrical components if you discharge static juice into them.

It may sound confusing, but he's exactly right.

Just one thing to add. One of the chips (the LH one?) may have kind of a plastic cover or clip over it. You have to unsnap that from the chip before removing the chip from it's socket.

My LH went in no problem but the jetronic will require unsoldering the old chip and resoldering the new one. Might just send that one out for someone else to do. Maybe Mr. Speake could do that when he reconditions my MAF?

My chips just popped out. No soldering needed. 15 minute job.

Hi Shane,
The same type of EZK in my Euro S2 (1986) was a plug in device. But if your does require solder/unsolder I can do it for you - or any other competant electronics tech.

I'm very surprised that yours is solder in, are you quite sure you have identified the correct chip ?

Thanks for the reply John. Yes I identified the right chip, and was rather dissappointed to find it soldered in place where the LH was as others described, popped right out. I would have done the solder job myself but for the protective coating on the board itself would have made a mess of things.

I just change my EZK EPROM because I had the model for Switzerland, with lower ignition timing - That was soldered too
The el-technician who installed that placed new new EPOM on top of the old one + one small switch and two resistances - I.e. now I have both and can change between the two EPROMs

I hope you're enjoying your car, or do you put it away during the winter ?
I can't say I am too happy with the relaibility of the switch idea....

Thanks John!
If I had easy access to my cars both sets of brains and Mafs would be on the way to you already. I had to cut short my last vacation and didn't have time to grab those before journeying back to Alaska.
Do you also do cruise control brains? Mine need some help.
