Default Can someone bring a Bosch Hammer to SITM?

I have an airbag light on the 93 GTS that has been on since I bought the car, would love to clear the light.

Thanks!

The Durametric doesn't clear that airbag light. Not sure about the Theo tool.

@Randy - The durametric can clear it IF the Airbag computer isn't fried.

@Jetson8859 - I hope your airbag computer isn't fried. Mine is in my 1990 and I'm going to have to take out the whole dash to replace it.

Isn't Theo's tool supposed to do every thing the Bosch Hammer does and more?

Actually, you can pull the airbag controller from the driver's side without taking the console and dash out. make very sure that the battery has been disconnected for a sufficient time to drain the power from any capacitors that might set off the airbags. You will have to remove the console side panel and the one way bolts can be a pain, but it's not that hard and doesn't take that long to complete.

There is a place in Allen, Texas that tests, rebuilds and refurbishes airbag controllers. The website address is: http://airbagsystems.com/
They pay the freight/shipping for the controller to get there (they give you a shipping label to print out and attach to your packaging), test it, and tell you what it will cost to fix it along with the freight/shipping back to you. Mine was about $50 to fix and negligible shipping.

No affiliation, just happy I didn't have to pay $2800 to fix my airbag controller by replacement with a new one.

Nope - not on my GTS - computer is fine. Rob ended up clearing mine with a Theo tool I believe.

Unfortunately, the 1990 is its own special case. Copied from this other thread I was on last year...

Seems like it would be easier to overcome in the later models....

With that said, I think there is a certain level of communication between the module (5 in both pictures) and whatever central warning computer exists.

I've gone so far as to buy a replacement 1990 Airbag controller and all the wiring for when I remove the dash, although I'd just as soon disable it.

I now see the problem. Snaking those cables out from under the dash would be a nightmare.

Aren't you going to need to troubleshoot and remedy the cause of the light, Kevin..?

If you cancel the light, but the fault is still present (detected), won't it just eventually reset (turn back on)?

.

Mark, won't know for sure until I reset light, if it comes back on then troubleshooting begins. It could be as easy as someone not disconnecting battery before pulling steering wheel. Will see after the light is reset.
