Congrats, Charlie!

And yet that 1977 911 Targa in ice green went up to $75,000 because of a Shutterfly coffee table book and a professional video. It wasn't even close to original, with a backdated rear end and a fake SC-RS
fiberglass nose (not a long hood conversion to match the back). I was stunned but stayed polite. That should have been a $25,000 car...maybe $30,000. An I'm a fellow air cooled owner x2.

Oh, and great buy on the 928!! I think you got a deal. Try Fibrenew for the seat repair...they did an amazing job on mine.

Interesting observation on the use of artistic settings and photo filters, I hadn't given that thought.
I can tell you that a recent artistically set, well photographed and filtered Black 928 GT listed on BaT (the one with the white leather) a couple of months ago looked really good in the pictures. It happened to be local to me in Southern California and when I went to look at it didn't look near as good as the photos. The car also sold well below what its market value should have been. So you may have something here.
Vanster, nice to hear from you, I will check the schedule and see if I can make either of those outings.

The seller of the car I just bought had to lower the reserve by a $1,000 toward with end of the auction or the $18,500 would have gone "reserve not met". With the recent mechanical repairs, he had $20,500 into the car in the 90 days he owned the car. He found it locally and it wasn't for sale but he convinced the owner to sell it so he could flip it but it went backward on him. The seller is great guy and a present 996 owner.

The repainted black GT with the white leather had very clear pictures

Personally, I didn't think the pictures in this add looked artificial, or "filtered." They were clearly taken by someone who knows what they're doing, nice shallow depth of field, etc. You can certainly hide flaws in Photoshop (I MAY have made a couple of those go away in my signature photo below) but you can do that without making the photos look professional. All that being said, if in general people have a perception that higher-quality professional-looking photos are hiding flaws, it doesn't really matter whether they are or not. Something to think about next time I'm selling a car...

Beautiful car. Is it my screen, or is there some sort of discoloration of the driver's seat collar on the cushion. They show much of it, but in two pics it looks brown-ish. Regardless, that is a minor fix.

Good luck with the car. Being in the OC you afre but a few miles from the infamous Doc Brown. I'd bring it straight there for a Post Purchase Inspection immediately. (Precision Motorwerks - Anaheim).
