Nice find, and Taubenblau rocks

Would-it be possible to see the original air compressor?

Sure, it is marked as made in USA so may be different as to what is delivered in ROW?

Not much going on with this car but I have converted the exterior lights to LEDs. I am real happy with how they came out. The camera has a hard time capturing the color correctly, but the tail lamps and brake lamps are a very bright deep red. LED on the left, incandescent on the right. It is hard to see the difference in brightness on the photo but see how much more of the lamps are lit.

Comparison of backup lights:

Comparison of turn signals:

When I went to replace the license lamps I saw that only the left bulb was lit - dimly. These fixtures are different than on my '83 and made of plastic. They are broken where the contacts are attached to the fixture. I was able to get them in place with the rubber boot for now. I will probably JB Weld them.
Here in the dark you can see the color a little better, all LED.

Nice, Thanks for including the source for the lights!!

Did you find the need for a load resistor so the bulb failure alarm doesn't go off?

For now, though I have an LED ready for the third brake lamp, I will leave the incandescent to retain cruise control and that should keep the 'stop lamp' warning from activating. There is a solution of installing a resistor to fool the system but I have not gotten that far. To disable the bulb warnings there is a post by Mr. Scherer detailing the removal of pins from the plug for the bulb controller which I will do. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ml#post3951223

I forgot to mention that the wiring and bulb sockets were pristine, I remember reading some people had problems with corrosion.

I'm thinking about doing this since a long time but didn't want to have to add resistors.

If I understand correctly, if I don't change the third stop lamp bulb, I should be fine. Just plug and play with the bulbs you listed. Right?

Also, what is the adjustable turn signal relay?

Thank you Alex and Happy New Year!

From what I have read of other's experiences, yes, cruise control should work if the third stop lamp is left incandescent but I have not tried it.
The stock turn signal relay will cause the turn signals to pulse much too quickly with LEDs and should be changed with a relay that is designed for LEDs. This one has a dial to adjust the speed to your preference. There are relays for LEDs without the adjustability too but I like the option.

Bertrand, it is 6F degrees here, feels like Canada! Happy New Year and stay warm up there.

Alex, thanks for the LED bulb info. Added this to my winter list ( our side -6 degrees today but garage is at 30degrees F) .

Happy New Years!

Alex, thanks again for the info, just installed the LEDs for rear tail lights, signals, brakes, etc and front turn signals. looks great.

Temp up to ~25 degrees and snowing so I was able to remove the tail lights and do inside, much warmer!

Glad it helped, the hardest part is sorting out which bulbs go where. Go out into the dark, turn on the ignition and shift into reverse to see how bright the reverse lamps are. That is my favorite part

Warm day in Massachusetts today, so started the GT and wanted to see the LED lights I installed last month. lights looked good, but the dash lite up with "Stop light out", "brake light out" and the turn signals lit up but would not blink even with the LED relay in place?

Does the 1991 928 have Can Bus, if so I need the Can Bus versions of the LED bulbs ,

Anyone know?

See my post above #37 to disable the warning lights. There is a link to instructions by Mr. Scherer to disable both those warning lights. My instrument cluster goes haywire and the turn signal relay activates non-stop with the ignition on whether turn signals are on or not - this was prior to changing to LEDs. That relay isn't working for me either but I thought it was due to these problems because it works great in my '83 and both cars use the exact same relay part numbers.
Swap in the original relay and it will work, mine does, it is just hyper. That will get you on the road for now.

Sorry about the issues Bob. Did you leave the incandescent third brake lamp bulb? If you did can you test if cruise control works?

Update:
Pretty sure I found the problem. The 12v and ground pins on the relay are reversed to what they should be. Maybe this does not matter on my '83 but does on the S4+ cars. The top pin on both go to the load, pin 31 is ground, and pin 49 is 12v. On the LED flasher the + and - are reversed.

I will order this relay which has the correct pin assignments and report.
