Hint: Put a spot of paint or nail polish on the adjusting rings so you have a baseline position to start. Make sure the adjusters are turning on the threaded sleeves, sleeves not turning on the shock body. Then adjust both sides of the same axle the same number of turns, and it shouldn't upset the corner balance.
If You Raise The Car to Adjust Height, be aware that it takes a while for everything to settle out again. I was FORCED to drive 100+ miles after lifting the car for it to completely settle again for alignment. But I did it!

I had to compress my front springs so the adjusters would turn. Front alignment after is required, toe set as a minimum.

I can see how this technique may not effect cross-corner balance if that's the primary goal, but be aware that raising or lowering an axle relative to the other one will certainly effect individual corner loads shifting more or less weight to the front or rear of the vehicle, which can have an effect on overall handling.

I recently drove my S4 almost 300 Mile's after playing with the front suspension. It still wasn't fully settled.
Just follow the factory method, it's not complicated at all.
I dont understand the push back on this. The WSM is our Bible for everything.........except when doing alignments, that's the one part they got wrong?

Or just follow the procedure in the WSM.

I can't seem to get the selective double gravity beam centered between the two front wheels. At least not well enough to draw the suspension down.
