Default 1979 charging question

Have a 1979 5sp with a charing issue.

It has not been always charging when driving, and in fact on the way to sharks in the park, drained the battery totally..so its gone from sometimes, to now never I guess.

Pod WORKS fully, including a new foil, everything cleaned on it. Voltmeter works too.

Voltage regulator from in the alternator, has LONG brushes, so perhaps replaced recently debugging the same issue?

Just replace the alternator at this point?

You probably should. It only costs ~$300 to get a new alt and it will prevent future headaches.

WYAIT, be sure to inspect the positive leads from the battery to the starter to the alt for corrosion as well.

Also, do you know the age of the battery? I would have it checked simply because of the deep cycling it has gone through and may have worn out contributing to Morgan's issues.

We swapped batteries side of road from a good car, with a newish battery, and the charging issue did not move to the other car.

Will be sure to check connections too.

Did the alternator waning light (at the bottom of the volt meter) come on? I think that would mean something, but would have to think about what.

Suggest not throwing parts. May work, may not, but costs money.

Start car, rev a bit and let idle. Record voltmeter reading.

Check and report voltage at the following locations. Should be ~13.7VDC:

D+ pin(Field) of the alternator
O8, Z1, Z6 of the CE panel
H7, H8 of CE panel

Ya...BTDT a few weeks ago, it WOULD light up, but is not anymore.
