Many collectibles are only manufactured for a certain time. If you try to "collect" after that, the demand might be lower, but the supply might be much, much lower - especially with a poster. It's not like you can buy it used - once somebody hung it, it has holes, or has faded or sagged. So the price keeps crawling up and up and up.

Tariq,

Neat GTS poster...have never seen that one. What is depicted in the poster? I cannot make out the details in the small photo accompanying the listing. Is that a garage / shop or a boat dock / commercial fishing scene?

Thanks,
TUK

It looks like it's a grocery store and/or Porsche parts shop in one. (You can see the scale on the bottom left next to some food? Then there are those shelves stocked with.....Porsche parts? The GTS looks to be facing a store with either arabic or persian script (with the red background and white font). The image is a bit small but I downloaded it and magnified it, and on the bottom left there's a man in a white outfit with red headgear and he seems to be staring at the vehicle. If you really want to get some more details I sudgest you download it and super-size it. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on in the picture. There's def. some kind of theme here, but I'm just not catching it.

Forgive my ignorance, but what makes the Brett Weston photograph of his 928 worth the opening bid of $1500.00?

I think I have this one (packed away right now). If its the one I'm thinking of, it came from a Porsche calendar some years back. There was a guy selling them in Germany a couple years ago and I got 5 or 6 different GTS pics that were once part of various Porsche calendars. They went really fast in fact, I didn't get all that I wanted.

I've seen actual 928 cars sold for less than the Weston photo!

At the moment, nothing. No one's yet bid on it.

Photos from noted photographers qualify as fine art. Art prices are much like retail software prices - they charge however much they can get away with and claim the value is subjective when criticized.

Artists need to make a living, too! Ever thought about how much time it takes to arrange for a professional photoshoot? Developing an idea and finding a location, setting up the secene, equipment, lighting, etc. Going though the process of selecting the perfect version of the shot, and having it developed in super high quailty?

If you do this for a poster that's printed a Million times, you've got the economies of scale. But that mass produced poster will never be as high quality and rare and therefore never be as valuable.

A limited edition photograph is high quality art and pretty unique, therefore worth more (if someone is willing to pay for it).

Trivia: Why did the 928 cost more than a Toyota? Because it's a piece of art, not mass production... ;-)

I think this is one of the best and even have it framed.

Not sure but the plate ends in 410. It is a large poster, something like 20 x 30 inches.
