Default New Gremlin in my electrics -Help!!!

Hi All

My car has been sitting well over 6 Weeks finally getting a sheared off torque tube replaced.

Anyway, my mechanic was taken care of that and a few other things before getting it back to me and suddenly the driver's side window stopped working.

Tonight he was sitting on the driver's door sill taking the DRIVER SIDE door panel off and he suddenly hears a clicking noise (KEY IS NOT IN CAR).

Then, the PASSENGER SIDE Window rolls down on its own partially !!

But the window switches do not open/close either of them.

What the hell is going on?!

Its a 1991 S4 with 116K that has been very well cared for.

Thanks in advance!!

Stuck switch- the plastic switch cover hangs up on the console, very common, and a little judicious material removal usually fixes it.

Thank you Martin

I will check that out and pray that's the problem.

We did just install a new window switch on the passenger side.

To your knowledge Would a glitch there also cause an issue for Driver side window that makes clicking sound but won't operate?

Interestingly enough, there was just a post about the "Window Module":

I vaguely remembered that the later cars had some sort of "auto" feature, but couldn't recall any details. This is where I'd start looking.

Probably not. More likely a binding winder mechanism or a bad winder motor. For the former, remove the door card, slightly loosen the bolts that hold the winder mechanism to the door and see if it works. A worn or loose guide bushing can also cause this.
