Default 86.5 Front shock help needed (Grit Blasting Advice Also)

Trying to dismantle my front shocks to paint and zinc plate stuff etc but cant seem to get the threaded collar over the top where the piston rod goes into the body. There seems to be a collar of sorts on there. In the PET it shows the thread on the shocker as an item as well as the threaded collar.
Any help appreciated.

Scott

edit: forgot to add the shocks are grey bodied Boges.

edit: Is fine glass bead grit ok for our aluminum suspension parts?

tap the upper plate off,
then the shock must be free of dirt to slide the collar off, if you got new Boge shocks it will come with a new plate if the old part is not corroded i would use the old one as its easier to fit be careful not to damage the piston when fitting the plate.
I use red loctite on the inner collar mount to hold it in place

Cheers Stan. I wasn't to sure how that mongrel comes off and don't want to damage anything as the shocks are only a few thousand kms old.
