Indischrot Red Paint question
My 88 S4 has Indischrot Red paint that's original and in good shape. When I polish the roof by hand (Zaino) I get a slight red color on the towel.
Was indischrot paint single stage from the factory or with a clear coat?
I'm getting it detailed and I don't want them screwing up my car since it is all original!
Any recommendations on detailers in Phoenix/Scottsdale area? I was considering these guys...although they look like they take themselves very seriously.

Thanks!

Not sure if your Indishrot [India red?] is the same shade as what I refer to as Guard's red but my late 90 S4 was "Guards red" and that had no clear coat either in the factory or after it was repainted by the main dealers [or so they advised me].
Polish that paint correctly and the shine was awesome but that colour I had is probably one of the worst colours to have in terms of the way it fades in sunlight. Modern paint protection systems can take care of that if caught in time.

Yes, it is single stage, so will bleed red when polished, compounded, etc. I have a 91 GT , same color and single stage. Detailer must be careful at the seams and edges, or they will burn through the paint to primer...

Indis or india red. A little more orange than guards red (which looks slightly more blue/dark). I love the red color, but red does fade if not kept up! I put 2 or 3 coats of the zanio twice per year. I was thinking of the ceramic coatings at the detailer, but worried that with the old paint/thin paint it may not work very well. I've heard new paint does better for some reason from folks on this list and other boards.
Thanks Voskian. I figured it was single stage....but I was worried somehow I fried my clear coat!
I'll have them ultrasound my paint to see how thin it is before doing anything.

Definitely single stage, no clear coat and as already stated, you/detail shop need to be very careful at any sharp corners. Indischrot is Guards Red, and yes you will get plenty of color on your towel. Personally I never liked machine polishing except to remove any acid rain cloudy spots. I always finished it up by hand with long straight strokes to eliminate/prevent swirl marks. Guards Red when it's nicely polished is one of the most beautiful reds on any car IMHO.

The "guards" part refers to the color of British uniforms worn in India. Thus "Guards" or "India" red are just different names for the same thing as Doc says above ...
