S4 vs GTS Oil Pan - Different part numbers
What makes them different and are they interchangeable? Have a buddy that cracked his GTS oil pan and I have a spare S4 oil pan.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I could be wrong. But I understood when I purchased a used pan for the 89 that there were two types. The difference being early cars had the drain hole for the old oil fill tube and later versions did not.

That makes sense.

So as Kevin wrote in initial post, I'm the lucky recipient of a piece of road FOD that cracked my oil pan.
I already had the engine out of my 87 to replace the main front wiring harness. The PO had put in a used long block in 2006 which was a 1990 so had correct oil pan. I removed the GTS baffle and drilled and tapped the 90 pan to install the baffle.
Since everything was down, did motor mounts and installed delrin power steering rack bushings I won at 3rd Coast. Also had to install a different starter as the housing cracked at the large bolt when attempting to remove the nut for the power cables.
Last thing was the oil pressure sensor, since owning the car the gauge pegged to 5 immediately on turning the key. Replaced it and still no joy. Next was to test from 14 pin connector down to terminals, when we pulled the 14 pin connector we found this
A quick call to George Boudouris, car electrician extraordinaire, and he spliced and soldered in new color matched wiring (sorry didn't a picture of his finished work) and yes, I will be adding Sean's new harness this fall!
A huge thank you to Kevin Berez (Kevin in Atlanta) for use of his lift, several spare bolts and parts to correct issues that he pointed out, and providing a ton of technical assistance both in wrench turning and the knowledge he has gained from working on these cars. 2 1/2 years ago I didn't own one 928 and now I have four!
Seriously wouldn't be here without the support of all the people I have meant thru Rennlist!
Cheers, Kevin

The GTS baffle is useless.... many of the baffles have been found waded up in the pan..... not needed and wasted money and time to drill and tap the holes. Install the S4 pan and be done with it.

Kevin Wilson really gets into his work.
Kevin Wilson at work getting ready to pull the front harness that required us to yank the engine. The wires in front of the transmission cooler are what's left of the wires that ran from the CE panel to the DS coils.
No, that is not photoshopped.
Kevin pulled that burnt harness and replaced it with a Mark Anderson replacement. That is no small task. The harness runs all the way to the engine fan controller in the cockpit and requires a lot of disassembly and re-routing of wires. He made the assembly look easy.
