Seeking opinions about a '79 euro 5sp.
Today I spotted a 928 at a local mechanics shop.
I stopped in to inquire about it.
Mfg date 11/78,
Euro 5sp, sunroof delete, and s type front and rear spoilers.
Silver w/black interior.
The body is straight, but paint is in poor condition.
The interior is ....ok, seats are good but door panels have aftermarket speaker holes cut out.
The most notable issue is this car has a sbc conversion, the install looked ok to me.
The sbc conversion was done many years ago.
The shop owner owns the car, he bought it as a project but has lost dedicated interest.
The car has no title, and is not listed for sale., but he would sell it for 1k, he's already had other offers.
Should I consider this one, or forget about it altogether?
It's literally like 5 miles from my house.
Thanks.

Many states do not require title for vehicles 25+ years of older..just "Bill-of-Sale" That said if you could not get her titled in your state you could easily get 2-4x in parts if you feel like going through the hassle of selling/shipping parts. Does it have the older style H4's..preferably without the tell tale's..I know someone who's looking. T

I don't recall the type of headlights, I am not that familiar with the early years.
Also I did not take any pics 'cause I didn't want the guy to get suspicious.
I would have no problem dismantling and storing parts.
I could sell the engine local in a heartbeat.
The odd thing is that it has a newer a/c condenser, but no a/c hooked up.
I'll probably go back Friday to do a more thorough look, take pics, and make a decision.
...what parts are compatible with my U.S. '85?

Quite honestly, if any 5 speed 928 shows up locally for less than $1500 I'm all over it... regardless of condition. If it has the M220 LSD that's $500 right there. Not to mention all of the other little bits and pieces. You could cut the roof off and sell it along with the headliner for maybe $400 to $500. That coupled with a good transmission and you'll be way ahead. Especially if you know you can sell the SBC locally I am not sure why you haven't already dropped a stack of $100 bills in his hand and pushed it the 5 miles home...

Does not have original engine, story is he bought it from a guy that frequently attended Porsche events in the Champaign, Illinois area years ago.

Externally, I only noticed minimal rust, typical, so not conserned, but the battery box bottom had a clear view of the ground.
All the glass is good.
I can't decipher the condition of the trans upon visual, as the master reservoir cap is mia.
...at least only one tire is flat.
He did include shipping in the price, ha ha.

If you have a place to keep it, get it.
Pull the SBC and sell it.
Figure out the rest from there.
I don't know how Indiana works, but here in Wisconsin, no title makes it difficult.
The "bill of sale" will work for possession of the car, but it would be almost impossible to register and get plates.
But if you are willing to go to the effort of dismantling and selling, there's a good chunk of change in it. Many parts will work on yours too.
And H4s are the 8", no trim ring headlights with the little wedge in the lens. Euro spec, not on US cars. Should have been changed when it was federalized but sometimes wasn't. Those go for serious money.
