Thanks Tom. I have the driver's door fixed, but waiting for some white panel clips to put it back together. Then I'll refresh the passenger door panel before starting on the interior clean up. I have the shifter out and will be making a new boot for it with one of my new GTS shape *****. I still have a little tooling to develop for the shifter **** leather covering process.

Nice car Jerry I would suggest to contact Rob Budd and have him make you a Alcantra pod cover its pretty easy to install with some weldwood cement and I think he has a match for the Bgundy or go with black.
For the door I would lubricate the window pivots and the lock latch mechanisms.
this make the windows operate faster, and the door handle will require less force to open,
this translates to less force used on the latch.
NOTE The door panel has 2 screws installed along the bottom edge at the rear edge, this is factory.
Use a pick to find the holes after you have fitted the panels.
I like to use clear shower curtain and Weldwood cement to make new vapor barriers and water drip panels. The door will sound like a drum when its closed with fresh vapor barriers
I have found some panels with an additional screw that sits at the rear edge of the panel and is covered by the arm rest

Thanks Stan. All excellent ideas, especially about Rob Budd, particularly since he is FBA Certified. However, I found a thread by some amature about how he and his buddy Doug covered a 928 pod with leather. I may follow that thread in redoing this pod.
Interesting about the screws in the bottom of the door panels. Now that I think back it occurs to me that the ones I have found in the past have always been in about the same locations. Using screws in the door panels is so tacky that I had never thought to give the Porsche Factory credit for them. Perhaps they were an afterthought, and perhaps done by the dealers based on some kind of service bulletin.

All door cards have those two screws. If they aren't there then they were removed somewhere along the way.

Great addition Jerry. My track car was a '89 five speed, pre-GT as well. I actually liked it better for the track than a friends GT, as the slightly lower numerical rear axle ratio gave a higher speed in 4th gear. The GT owner had to change to 5th, an on the uphill areas of the track(s) we were driving, there was no acceleration in 5th gear for the GT.
Also, I think I remember there were fewer manual trans '89 S4's than there were '89 GT's, so they are quite rare.

Or, something less could be done in one day, a Saturday - - meet at VAil Pass, then over Shrine Pass to see the mountain, then Red Cliff and, battle mountain to Minturn and Vail for lunch and then home.

I wonder when this addiction will taper off. I recently got back from SoCal where I finally picked up an 85 that has pretty much been stripped out, but which was given to me mainly for the torque tube that I was still in need of for the 5-speed conversion in the Radical Custom. It's still in the trailer; but now I have to unload it so I can go to Denver and pick up the Bamboo Beige 82 I just bought.
