Rubber Moulding Question Where Fender Meets Hood
Looking at PET right now, I can see that there is a moulding that runs up the top of the fender that possibly seals or provides a padding when the hood is closed. The moulding I have runs up from the front bumper, and stops at where the radiator sits.
PET has this moulding part number as 00004312900 (000 043 129 00), and it looks like it's missing on both sides of my fenders. You can see in the picture below (sorry it's flipped) where the fender ascends toward the cowl on the driver side, this moulding isn't present. However, you can also see on the passenger side of the fender in the corner of the pic where the moulding stops at the radiator and transmission cooler.
Does anyone else have the moulding on the entire inner fender? My local Porsche dealer actually stocks it as I found out yesterday so I may pick some up as I am completing my mini-project of replacing broken splash shields and alternator cooling duct.

000 043 129 00 is the sealing cord that goes between the fender and the engine bay to provide a watertight seal. You can't even see it.
Only the early cars had a seal that runs the length of each fender lip.

Okay that makes sense. However, the fender has a recess where those sheet metal screws are at the top, running along the engine compartment. I can't find any other 928 engine pictures that show an actual moulding covering this recess. I even jumped on Wilhoit's site to see if the latest GTS had them. They don't it looks like. So is that recess at fender's edge exposed, normal? It just seems like some sort of trim is supposed to slip over it (possibly to even keep out rain water from the engine compartment), not to mention the edges are a little sharp (sliced a knuckle tucking some wires in on the driver side).

78-79 have U-shaped moldings that run along that horizontal edge of the fender:
Not sure what happened between 80 and 86. Part # for 78-79 is 928 511 551 03, which is also shown for 80-86, but the U-channel I show aboce, I'm pretty sure is 78-79 only. Entirely possible I'm wrong.
Some years of S4 (87-89? I'm guessing- they're not present on 90+) have glue-on strips that sit on top of that edge. Part # is 928 504 551 03.

This was some S4 at Greg's, I took the pics because of the weatherstripping, at some point when I was OCD'ing about weatherstripping. Not sure why it's missing the fender bolt. I think that thing was a leaf, not rust.

I suspect that the bulb weatherstripping around the hood edges is a fairly generic trim piece. On "other" brand builds, I'd buy that stuff by the roll and install it where needed. Lots of interesting Italian cars (early DeTomasso) never had any when they were originally built, and benefited from a few strategically placed pieces to protect paint finishes, cut down on body squeaks and rub noises, and keep water out of the cabin too.
At some point a detailed map of these engine bay moldings on the different year cars will be an asset. Precision description of material, dimensions and locations "as shipped" is what I'm thinking. I'll add that to a list of 2dews.
