Thanks so much. This is such valuable documentation of the x38 option
I made a plywood form based on my X38 fender and tried it on a standard fender. There is a difference! Not much but 6-8mm wider at some places. Can’t really see much difference behind the front wheel but from top of the wheel arch all the way to the front bumper attachment it’s noticeable wider.
Interesting effort, but what do you think it means in terms of the production of these X38 fenders?
Since there was only 66 X38 cars built I find it very unlikely that Porsche produced a complete new set of forms for pressing/making the fenders. I believe the X38 fenders are all modified standard fenders. The amount of material is the same and measurements edge to edge are the same. Porsche probably just came up with a simple way to create the extra bulge on a standard fender.
I had a look today together with an aluminium car body expert at the template I built, a X38 fender and a standard fender. Our conclusion is that it is fully possible and with not too much work create a X38 fender out of a standard fender.
