Can't believe this would happen to a 928

I really can't believe this 928 on ebay! I saw the interior and am positive that it is a Weissach special edition.......or it used to be. They painted it purple!! I owned a Weissach and can identify them very easily....not to mention this one was also made it 82...like the Weissach. Wow!

Yep, Aubergine (Eggplant). It was a popular color for the 914 and 911 series in the early seventies.
My 914 was this color when I got her. I decided to leave the front trunk the original color. With the hood open, it looks just like an animal with her mouth open.
I don't find it unattractive in the 928. It clashes with the interior, though. I could live without the boom-box stuff also.

Well, if the paint was screwed up before hand, or something, that could justify it.
Say some poor unloveing soul left it out in New Mexico under the sun for a decade or so.
Can you even get the limited edition paint, and such now?

it's not so bad. The 928 is moving into the hot-rod stage of it's life, so you'll start to see this kind of stuff. I personally think it's fun. Why stick with stoddgy old 70's and 80's colors and paint chemistry? I'd piant one a fun color if I was going ot sell it. People like the "flash" Most of us have 17" wheels don't we??? - Ruf

Good point, Rufus.
I am considering buying a fixer (another 16 valve) and really fooling around with it.
I'd really like to paint one in white with broad blue accents like the Porsche werks racing cars of the 60's and 70's. Do a big '928' graphic down the rocker panels, etc. Get some 16" Fuchs 911 wheels and build out a fairly funky period piece. Of course I'd draw the line at sticking an 8-track in her.

Distinctive color for a Distinctive Ride.
I personally would have found another color,
however it looks like it has been loved and cared for.
The seller on the other hand has a few eBay dings for
selling bad cars, but as always 66 glossy photos
shouldn’t replace a good PPI

Looking at the rust under the rear quarer windows and some of the scratches, the car needs a repaint again. You can change it back to original Weissach color with the next repaint.
I like the color better than the original Weissach color, but it sure does not go well with the color of the interior. And I agree, yo0 should not change the color of a limited production model - at least not, if you want to keep it in original shape. That didn't seem to be a major concern here anyway...

as the owner of a special....changing the paint color of such a rare car is a terrible shame.
but it makes my 1 of 205 (or 206) worth just that much more..
seems like there is less than 10 of them here on the list so as time goes on the ones that are left become more valuable everyday......or someday.
i love my 928 and its being a special just makes it that much better..
we should start our own club

I actually had a 78 928 that I painted a very similar if not identical color. The color is called Black Rose, it was a Corvette color back in 92, the car looked black at night and kinda purple during the day. If it were not for the spoilers and the interior color I would have thought for sure that was my old car. I need to dig up my old pictures of that car. I'll admit that the color is a little much, but to each their own.
