928 Strosek wheels
Although they look a bit dated, I still like em. Now for sale at the German ebay.

I have these on mine. Of course, I'm biased now but I think they look better than the factory Design 90s...and they're fatter! If you want pics, let me know. I bought mine from the Strosek distributor in Jersey, fredopertracing.com.

So can you still get them new?
I'd really like some pictures, because I always liked my phone dials,
but to go wider, I had to change them. I was looking at replica Lambo
wheels, but these would be much better, as I am sure they are made
to fit the 928...

You can't get them new. There were 1000 made by OZ Italy for Strosek. Fred Opert Racing had 3 until a 993 customer of theirs hit a curb sideways. That made it possible to sell me a set of 3 new and 1 used. Theoretically, Fred Opert still has a good one left. The used one was in great shape but I had all 4 turned true at a cost of about C$100-150 each. Even a new rim is not perfect.
The downside of this is that I will need to put on an organ transplant list if I ever end up sideways into a curb. I need to give serious though to this eBay auction in case I need a spare. It looks like the auction only has 2 wheels but I didn't pull out my German dictionary!
They were made to fit the 911/993. The offsets an width are the giveaway.
Yes, they are similar to the phone dials of yesteryear but have a fashionable facelift. Mine were polished; some are chromed; others are anodized. I believe that OZ anodized all of them.
My car has rolled fender lips. I have about an inch of inboard clearance at the rear despite the lip hanging over the wheel. The fronts are no problem either.

Ok, question.
Watching discovery and the guys at Orange County Choopers getting a custom wheel made. The block of aluminum is secured....the machine operator hits a few buttons and then shavings fly for the next hour or so.
Tah dah! A custom wheel.
Why cant that be done with this wheel?
Cost comes to mind first...but being on the other side of the fence of wheel manufacturing, i dont see why a person can desgin there own wheel or duplicate one...then get the stock aluminum and have it machined?
What does a 18"x18'x10 block of aluminum cost?
Pipe dreaming again

As a guestimate, a chunck of metal that wide might cost around $600 to $700. The machine shop time to make the part won't be cheap, either. When its all done, how much will your custom wheel weigh and how strong will it be? I prefer rims that have undergone some testing and stress analysis, especially since our cars are much heavier than anything OC Choppers is making. Shame, too. It'd be great to be able to get nice wheels like that.

Man, those wheels are tempting. That's a great style, one that fits the character of the 928 well. I think the only reason I don't have the old school phone dials on my shark is the size. I really prefer 17s or 18s. Jim, I'd love to see some pics. The Murcielago wheels appear to me the ultimate evolution of the phone dial, but I have a feeling Mr. Lambo is the only car that can pull them off.

Boyd's wheels makes all kinds of fancy, custom wheels, and sell them to the general public.
So I think some of those machine shops that make wheels know what they are doing.
But they are not cheap...
But it seems like they can make almost anything...

Also, as I mentioned before, (search threads)
there is a place that makes replica Lambo wheels
for kit cars, and will do any size, and any bolt pattern.
Again, not cheap.
But if you need custom phone dials, they can be found...
