I recall the last time smog pump removal came up, it was mentioned that the pump plays a role in maintaining the health of the cat. Is that so?

Jessa - Yes it is true. The rule of thumb goes, if you remove the pump, remove the cats. If you keep the cats, over time, they will become clogged and or bad.

sorry Cory, dont mean to keep jumping into your thread.

Here's what I did on my early 86 & it worked well in 100+ degree weather. I ditched the stock viscous & electric fans & replace the electric with a pusher unit I got off Ebay for about $50- can't remember the exact size & car has been sold, but it stuck above the front of the radiator about an inch or so. I wired it with the stock wiring- just spliced on to the two wires, and also changed the temp sensor in the radiator to a lower temp which I got from one of the big 3. I later removed the cats & the air pump, but while the pump was there I installed a shorter belt to drive just the air pump without the viscous fan. With this setup, the temp guage would get about halfway between the white lines when the fan would kick on & you could see the needle drop (only happened while idling in warm weather).

I was also looking at removing my stock fan and putting in an electric fan. Would a 17 inch 1750 cfm 12volt fan be enough to cool the car off?

Also, What is the prper size of fan that would be needed to replaced the stock belt driven fan?

Cory,

I'd get the Flex-a-lite FLX-210 electric fan in place of the stock fan. I have found that the dual 12" fans with a shroud are more effective than the single electric fan. You can find the Flex-a-lite fans at www.summitracing.com I use the FLX-210 set-up on my supercharged 560 SEC and they work great.

I've read that if the 928 doesn't get in its operating temp range you lose power? Exactly where is that on the temp guage for what the motor should be at its optimum temp? Also, my car never runs above the 1st line is that running too cold or is that just fine?
Thanks,
Cory J.

Another question, its about wiring aftermarket fans so that they stay on when the ignition is turend on and stays at the same speed, i'm guessin this is the eaisiest way to do it, correct me if i'm wrong. But what kind of relay should I buy and where can I find a 12V power source to run to the relay? Also, could anyone give a quick ''how-to'' about hooking everything up to make the fan work maybe send me some steps if thats ok...Please lol
Thanks guys,

Cory - The fan switch kit should have installation instructions that explain all the connections that you will need to make to make the fan work. If you still have questions after reading the instructions let us know. Good luck!
