Not Porsche. Predominant color for Porsche is an admixture of silver/gray/charcoal. Red is fairly uncommon for Porsche, as they want to make sure they don't fall into the 'Ferrari' trap. A repaint to red is also quite uncommon, except maybe in the very old restoration cars where they can go back to the chassis paint and do it all over.

Might depend on the model and era. When I was shopping for a used 911SC the predominant colors were black, red, silver or white. I have read that when dealerships bought inventory these colors were considered safest based on what sold the easiest. Guards Red was very common and cars were often repainted in this color. I was looking for an interesting color and had no success. Ended up buying a black car and doing a color change.

We lean towards stock configuration with early 928s here ...counting the hours until that radio hits the trash can.

The US market rejected this car (low offers) so it's heading back to Germany.

Call Porsche COA people and tell them to look deeper into it. They will check what they have on file in Germany to corroborate the story, and will change the COA if the info confirms the error.

Thank you Alex, I'll do that. When I called them in September they said my car was originally Glacier Blue Metallic (which I don't believe was offered until 1983). I can find no trace of this colour on the car, and I'm sure I would have seen it when I removed my rear bumper to replace a bumper shock.


...and drooman, you clearly have a gift for spotting undervalued 928's. If I empty a box of toothpicks on the ground, will you be able to instantly guess how many?
