Wrapping my 928
#61
A big day today - first drive with the blue wrap on the car! Been many months since last drive, and was nervous to see what new problems would show up, but all was fine! Good oil pressure, water temp, no trans issues, and ran great! Still needs a tune, that is next on the mechanicals. Still need to wrap the drip rails, some rub strips, and the headlight buckets.
A summary for the wrapping - in short, if you don't have experience doing it, it will be very, very frustrating! Wrinkles in compound curve areas (many on a 928!) will be the main problem. At least my nemesis anyway - this wrap is not perfect by any stretch. But the color is awesome, and when this eventually gets painted, it will be a similar blue. If asked, I would not do it again unless the surface was good condition paint. The wrap does not hide flaws, and even shows surface scratches left from 220 grit sandpaper. I went to 400 grit everywhere, but some deeper 220grit scratches still ended up showing. Another thing is the texture of the wrap - it does not gloss like paint, looks more like orange peel in angled light. This might be improved with a wax coat, still to be determined. From seeing other cars at Sharks in Hell, this wrap will not compare to glass smooth paint. This is one of those cases where I see all the flaws because I did them, but others may not. It looks beautiful in the sunlight, and with more details finished and the wheels redone, it will turn heads.
Total usage for the wrap was 30ft + 60?ft, and only have some scraps left to finish the remaining parts, no large pieces. I had 2 fender size pieces scrapped, plus 2 roof size pieces, so lost 20ft in those.
