Spokane PCA Parade, July 9-15
So here's an idea: PCA Parade is in Spokane this year, July 9-15. Info was posted on the PCA website a few days ago, here: http://parade2017.pca.org/
What about a 928 event-within-the-event?
Both Porsche and PCA are reaching out to the "Transaxle" cars and trying to include us, maybe we can reciprocate. Parade is a framework, there are lots of opportunities to participate both in the general activities and create some of our own.
Registration is Sunday July 9, and Concours is Monday. We had a half-dozen 928s on the lawn in Vermont last year, and the Preparation/Street class is your basic "show and shine", interior/exterior judging only. The rest of the week is devoted to various driving events, autocross, etc.
So what if we had an informal 928 get-together Saturday evening, then wash and polish Sunday, then the Concours Monday and maybe a casual dinner Monday evening? Then a 928 drive/tour on Tuesday, Concours banquet that evening for those interested (maybe a table or two for 928 folks), then whatever you want for the rest of the week: More driving, knock over some cones at the tight & twisty autocross, wine tasking tour by bus, whatever.
Would something like this work? The downside is that PCA membership is required, but that is simple and cheap. The upside is that PCA is good folks, and the events are well-organized.
Thoughts?
Some pic's from last July in Vermont:
Bob Voskian's wining Guards Red GT, our white GT after crossing North America, Ronn Carr's GTS and Bertrand's gorgeous S4:
From left: Dieter Landenberger (factory historian) and Prescott Kelly (PCA Past President and MC) talking 928's with Kim Crumb, a very old-timer here:

Our local PCA region is planning a group attendance, so we'll probably head up. Spokane is about 6 hours give-or-take. Goal is to get rooms in the headquarters hotel, as it has covered (underground) parking. Opens at 9am eastern time tomorrow, or noon Pacific time.
If you are even thinly considering attending, get your room reservations in tomorrow. Usually no penalty if you change your mind early and cancel.

If you've never attended Parade, I highly recommend it. It's quite the experience.
A large 928 turnout would be in keeping with the 40th anniversary recognition efforts this year and another great opportunity to show rear-engined fans in PCA what a great community we have.
Kudos to Jim and Sue for making the west to east trek for the Jay Peak Parade, but WA is a bit too far for me.
Treffen (formerly Escape) is another national PCA event opportunity that occurs twice a year. This year's spring Treffen is near Austin, TX 30 Mar-2 April and the fall event is in Asheville, NC 20-24 Sept... in the same neck of the woods as the annual SITM location. Treffens are not competitive events, just social events, driving and tours. I've never been to one, but plan to attend Asheville.

Our solution to the "right-half problem" to Vermont was to head north through UP and then through Ontario and Québec. Heading to NC and environs we stay on I-90 through South Dakota before heading south and east.

You were reading my mind Jim (see email sent very late Dec).
Roger, Jarrod and others were discussing combining the parade with an 928 OCIC. Most of the Wetern PCA folks in Canada are attending.
I registered today and booked into the Grand hotel.....my GTS will be there

More kudos to Sue and Jim for their drive to Vermont. Too bad they're being cheated this year out of another long drive to Parade.
Make sure you sign up early, as said, and sign up for the concours dinner (bring some decent clothes).

My Dad's side of the family, is ether in Yakima or Spokane. I'd better get up there before we're all taking the dirt nap.
See y'all in July.
The best thing about it being in Spokane, is I can stay with my numerous cousins for free.
They all stay with us in Vegas, so they got more money to gamble with. Bout time I get something back.

Cool, this is sounding terrific! Monday evening is looking like a good time for a get-together, Sue is busy researching local brew pubs where we could maybe snag a private room. And on Tuesday we could hijack a group drive, or organize one of our own-- lots of great roads in the area.
The official event runs through Saturday, and coincidentally on Sunday the local Inland PacNW Region is doing a Driver-Ed event at Spokane Raceway... Hmmm....
