Default Early Tensioners Interchange

Quick questions as I am slowly putting the euro s engine back together.

The original euro s tensioner did not come with the inside stacks/pin (not sure why), so can I use an earlier tensioner (my '78 US) to this M28/11 82D00645 engine?

I should not need the gasket, right? Since the earlier tensioners do not have the "open oil holes" in the back of the tensioner that '83 and later engines have.

Thoughts are to either rebuild the earlier tensioner (boot, clamps), since I think I can't buy a stack of discs and pins for a tensioner, or use the porkensioner.

Appreciate any and all advice,
thanks hoi

Early tensioners will interchange. The rebuild kit requires the spacer to fit the later boot as the early boot is NLA. No gasket, but don't forget to seal the top bolt as it goes thru to the oil galley.

We have the kit for using the later boot on the earlier tensioner.

Hoi, I thought I read on the list that the Porkensioner does not work on the early cars? Anyone confirm?

PKT works well on the early cars (78 & 79) except that the PKT bracket hits the AC bracket. A small notch in the AC bracket resolves the issue if that is the way you want to go.

Thanks for the help.

Roger, the engine is an '83 euro S, would the Porkensioner be hitting the AC bracket on an '83 engine?

BTW, Roger, boneheaded me forgot to order some parts with the last order, so I am making another long list again!

If there's comfort, you are not the first and certainly won't be the last to keep several running lists. Stuff I ordered, stuff on the way, stuff I forgot, stuff I still need.

Hi, my name is bob and I'm a 928 parts addict!

So, so true! Just went to my garage and checked my inventory and found out that I had bought the tensioner boot and gasket after having had them from the parts car!

Oh, I also found the '84 parts car tensioner, so I'm good!

Thanks all for your advice and encouragement (dr bob)
