Smart money says , ship it to Kiln RED and let him paint it properly, Glassurit 55 line.
Now its just about ready for that to happen.
Refinish the sweet 16 inch wheels.

This will give you time to figure out a nice interior,
and the car will be out of your hands for a few months.

Their are many cars like this, BUT not many this color,
down the road with great paint and a nice fresh interior,
Hint Pasha and fresh carpets.
I could see this beauty fetching over 40K on BaT.
Good luck, your the right man for this machine !

Well, I know those kinds of outcomes are possible. I'm not sure if the cost to get there is always warranted. Painting the car yellow makes it essentially unusable as a daily driver. The origin interior was brown vinyl with brown carpet.

I may rally it out and wait until the values are such that no matter what I did to it, there's is value, but with the "labor of love" part of it, I don't currently see spending any money on the colors brown or yellow.

FWIW with the mirrors and front and back PU covers off,
5K labor and 2K for supplies from Austin to paint a 928,
he has done a few of them.

I hate to do this. I really do. Honest, but - I can't let it go.

I chatted with these folk back in summer, maybe July-ish about this car. It's not flawless, but - it's damn nice. 66k miles back then. We were in the high teens when I figured I would do something else, and bought another plane. I was also looking at an 87 in Cassisrot. I like the rare colors. Even with new pasha, carpets, good paint, etc I can't see double price. Maybe in a few years, maybe not,,, hard to say but for now I would put a nice car like this in the high teens to low 20s.

Doc thanks for posting this now,
that car needs some interior refreshment,
some paint polishing as well and then put it on BaT in the spring.

It would be worth it to see what it will bring.

I will bet close to 40K with the interior fixed up,
swap out those funky 15s for the real deal 16 inchers with some fresh tires
BC knows how to make them look pretty
Austin knows how to paint ,
With a low buy in ........who knows

Wow, that car is nice. You know why it may not be able to bring big numbers? This is just my single, mostly uninformed (as colors - meh) opinion - nobody fcking likes yellow. Not for a daily driven non-lambo. And they don't even really make anything in pure yellow anymore.

Yeah, maybe that sounds "black and white" (pun intended) but right now, I am just trying to get some seats recovered for it, get the new hatch glass in, and drive it around and see what breaks.

It does have the 16s. They may be gone soon for a totally blasphemous swap.

If you want to underwrite the deal, I'll grab it for $18k, we've got Andy in town who can do magic with paint resto, I"ll have my guy fix the bolster, and the curling dash leather, then put it on BaT in May. We split anything up to $26k, and you can have the rest on top of that. I don't see any profit in the car, and an efficient market says that this yellow which has now been for sale for > 7 months isn't going anywhere fast. I don't care where you try selling it.

We are pretty much looking at a bare bones RS lightweight type of thing for my son, and as his tastes or talents change, it will change. The one downer is that I sold all my dual disk clutch stuff. I suppose if it gets a bigger motor later, I'll just do s4 clutch stuff.

Sure, maybe it's a bit of living my adolescence again and really really just wanting him to show up with the coolest car at high school when that time comes. Call me shallow.

I have three kids. My oldest wanted a 90 Trans Am and got it. We spent a good deal of time sorting it and addressing its needs. My second some wanted a 1987 Mustang 5.0 convertible. Same thing, found a one owner car and been nursing it since. My daughter wanted a TJ Jeep. Got her a 97, replaced the rotted frame and rotted tub. My kids have a driveway full of cars that I would have wanted as a young man. You know what? If I had to do it all over again I would have gotten them three new Hondas. This fleet of 90s adolescence sucks. They get killed on gas, can't go anywhere in the snow (except the Jeep, which everyone seems to drive) and are constantly fixing them. I am now a full time mechanic maintaining their fleet.

I can empathize......but proceed with caution

Well said Guy. Caution is what I will indeed be proceeding with. If he wants his car fixed he can learn the do it himself. He is working with me now, but probably not really paying attention.

You too! lolz.... I didn't get the kids exactly what they wanted, but I got close. Lucky they didn't want tuna boats. But - I got real expert at VW GTI turbo troubleshooting.

When they graduated college, I got them each a new Prius C. had them now for +2 years, and its gas, oil, wiper blades, and recently tires. Love it! One will need brake pads pretty soon. 2 hour job in the driveway. Love it again!

Through a careful amount of psyops and gentle coaching, my son understands the Prius is a scourge on this earth.
