Angry Locked the Keys in my Car!

To cut a long story short; tonight we locked the all the keys as well as all the spare keys in the car. At the time it happened, the alarm was set to automatically lock the doors when closed. The locksmith does not know how to get into the car. Besides ordering a new key, or breaking a window, does anyone have an idea how to get into the car? Any ideas or help welcomed.
The car is in Atlanta area now.

The rear quarter panel windows are the cheapiest I believe if you have to break in it. There are many windows for sale on Ebay or Rennlist. If the cost of new keys or locksmith is more that window than break the window and replace but do a cost comparision if you have the time which I think you're short in supply on now.

Good luck my brother!

Random thought, pull up really hard on the rear hatch.

Sometimes the lock is worn, and will release under pressure. The alarm will probly go off, and kill the engine, but that OK becuase you can now get yoru keys.

If helps if you can find someone with strong thin fingers. Try to avoid useing a crowbar or something, as the material under the hatch isn't of the greatest strength.

From there, it's not too expensive to replace the whole deal so a theif can't do the exact same thing.

Good luck.

For a while, that was the only way I could get my hatch open.

Don't break the window or pry the hatch up.

Remove the aluminum trim from around one of the rear quarter panel windows. Cut rubber gasket with knife/razor and remove glass.

Order new gasket/seal for $50 and re-install

We'll look for the post on how to re-install the glass/gasket. It involves a rope and patience.

Scott

I believe that the moment you have experienced is called the ignosecond. It is the second you shut and lock the door and remember or see that the keys are still in the car. Good Luck

Same thing happen to me with a honda. Went to the dealership and they were able to cut a key from the VIN. Maybe the cheapest/easiest option.
If you're like me you have enough things to fix w/o breaking something.

I had to break my quarter window when the same thing happened to me as well....The quarter glass is a lot cheaper used on ebay (I paid $25) than anything else you might be thinking of breaking....No locksmith can get into the car...not even the police with all their tricks of the trade....I have called them both for help.

Good luck - VK

Hello Sias,

One word of caution here before you spend money.

If you are not the original owner, or do not know if the key cylinders have been replaced in the past 18 years, you don’t know if the original key will work any longer.

My Porsche dealer has had many a customer pissed after ordering a VIN key that didn't work. I myself purchased my current 928 with 3 keys (1 for ign, 1 for drivers door, and 1 for all other locks). So I had all my cylinders keyed to a different key set all together. My previous 928S also had replacement cylinders. So, if anyone were to go to the dealer for keys to either of my 928's, they would be wasting time (I think lead time on a dealer key is at least a week) and money.

IMHO I would :

* Not go to the dealer.

* Call the big 3 (928 specialists, 928 INTL, Devek) and ask their opinion.

* Not cut or pry anything ($$$$).

* If worst came to worst. First get a used qtr glass (as Red UFO has wrote, it is the cheaper one, and available) call a glass guy familiar with the 928. When he arrives, have him remove your Qtr glass exterior trim, and break the glass. Then you can open the car while he installs the new qtr glass and trim. I think that a new qtr glass trim gasket costs much more that a used glass.

This is just my opinion and how I would proceed.

I think that the "big 3" can tell you the best way to go.

Can't you use a slimjim? All towtruck drivers have them. Hell, I even have one, somewhere. Or do 928's not let you in with those?

I had two keys cut for my car from the VIN by PCNA. They were the wrong pattern, but they only took a few days to get. If your data in the computer is correct you might get a key cut from your VIN and be in business. They cut the keys in Atlanta, BTW. You picked a good spot to get locked out.

BTW they think my keys were the wrong pattern becuase an alarm was added to my car at the factory as a running change on the line. It is probably not all that common for the key in the computer not to match the car at all.
